DD coil or Sef coil MXT PRO

The 6" Eclipse and the SEF 6X8 are Great choices for the MXT & M6.

Happy Hunting, :detecting:

(too much) ;) that White's 6½" Concentric (the 5.3 Eclipse) and the 6X8 SEF Double-D are some of the best choices to consider. The "intermediate size" search coil are what I rely on 98% of the time.

I use both the SEF8x6 and the 5.3 Coils, albeit not on a MXT but the DFX,i hve found that the 5.3 coil is superb on stubble or very trashy roman/saxon sites as target seperation is crititical especially when you have alot of nails and other general trash. But i am finding that the SEF8x6 coil is becoming my standard everyday coil as it does give slightly more ground coverage and very similar performance that the 5.3 coil gives.

Why Whites ever produced the 12'' coil as the stock version is beyond as any they are not ideal for folks just starting out,you should be able to choose your everyday coil rather than just being offered the 12'' coil.

Must admit for years i always went down the bigger the better coil route, these days its the other way around i have a load of large coils gathering dust in the garage and the smaller ones have been dusted off and finding me more goodies.

Well this has been beat to death so I'll just throw my 2 cents in. The 12" 300mm is a beast very heavy. I use a 6X10 DD if I want a bigger coil. It is light with good coverage and pinpointing. A great all around coil. I have the 8X6 SEF on the machine for everyday. In hard soil it is very hard to beat. Some swear by the 10" D2 but I have never had the change to use it. I have used the 5.3 but it seems really small if you are in a park or some large area. Maybe nugget hunting but the little 4X6 or 8X6 SEF would probably work just as well. I depends a lot on your ground 90% and how strong your arm is 10%. JMO. So for me and my ground (very hard) 8X6 SEF stays on and in special circumstances 6X10 DD. If I could only have one coil it would be the 8X6 SEF but either one would work.
