Day 1 at the Fairgrounds! Silver galore!

Try wet baking soda and rub a silver coin between your fingers. Does a great job to take off tarnish and shine them up. I check my coin book and if a silver coin isn't really worth anything then I always clean it this way. If it won't come clean then I use electralysis (sp?), which also works good on copper or bronze coins to bust the crud off them.

Silverbear, where are you from, as yoiu ahave the same last name as I. Just wondering as the name is not that common.
Thanks,
Mike

just watched your vid, and how odd that you CALL out the date of the silver coin before you even see it? hmmmmm are you physic?

1. deep plugs not holes, your digging methods will get you kicked off that fairgrounds pretty quick
2. do NOT rub silver coins, PLEASE
3. if you gonna call out the dates, make it more believable, at least hold the coin in your hand long enough that you can actually see the date before you call it out. The way your doing it, makes it look like you planted the coin then dug it out

In Response:

1) The fairgrounds keepers said they did not care if the field looked perfect and we put our plugs back in to the best of our ability. The dirt was extremely hard and would not make a perfect plug.
2) These are my first silvers that I plan on keeping. It is my coin and is perfectly fine to rub it for one second to see the date. I am planning on keeping these separate from the rest.
3) All of the silvers I found I video taped me actually digging them out for the first time. I did not "plant" a coin. I am also young and have good eyes and can see the dates clearly and faster than most people. I did not plant any coins and I am kind of offended that you would even say something like that.

Also, yes I am new to this hobby but I take it very seriously. I call to get permission and respect all authority. I abide by the rules and always ask how they would like the area treated. I do NOT fake anything in my videos. I love this hobby and will be doing it for a very long time. Please understand that there is not one perfect way to metal detect. Everyone has their own way. I have already said in other comments I plan on saving all silver coins exactly as they come out of the ground. Thank you for watching my video and voicing your concerns. They have been taken into consideration.

And if you are referring to the wheat penny in the second video where I exposed the coin and called out the date. The exposed portion of the coin was very clean and the date was popping out and I was kneeling down and simply just read off the date.

Really? How did you find out my last name haha. I hope you do not think that Silverbear is my last name. I am from California though.

First two reasons I understand where you're coming from...but you're saying we college guys are going to drop $1700 and $600 on an E-Trac and AT Pro, take our time to dig holes, and then stick a silver coin (which aren't even key dates) on the bottom to make a video? As college students we have WAY better things we could be doing than staging metal detecting. This really offends me that you'd say something like that as a detectorist.

calm down guys, I am not saying your burying the coin then re-dig it up. What I meant was maybe you looked at date, then laid it back in the hole and picked it up while filming, because on several you called out the date before it was even close enough to see.

Also I appologize, I did not realize your eyes were so good you could "see the dates clearly and faster than most people" I am sorry.

Man that garrett AT-PRO can hold it's own with the Big Boy's! Good Hunt!

Yeah it does pretty good with surface jewelry and other things although it is mostly just being in the right place haha. The E-trac was the killer though with deep silvers and wheats.

I gotta agree with goes4ever on the plug digging, it appeared very ripped up. Even though a person doesn't have to cut a perfect plug, it's nice to get some practice for future hunting grounds. I'm by no means a perfect plug cutter either, but if we give each other a few heads ups now and again, it will help to keep our hobby protected.
I've learned to wait for a little moisture to help keep the grass from dying, and also to not cut plugs in the grass on super hot days with the sun beating down on it.-Kills the grass every time, leaving an ugly brown spot.
I hope I've not offended either of you, I'm just trying to be helpful.

By the way, Congrats on the finds, and Happy hunting!

I just watched the part 2 of your video, VERY COOL gold ring!!!!

You guys are killing me with those nicked up coins. No big deal on normal finds, but if you get a semi or key date coin you just destroyed it's value. Try to get some pinpointing practice in on centering the coin right in the middle of the plug. It will help you reduce the number of nicked coins and allow you to dig a smaller plug. There are tons of vids on pinpointing technique's.

Great to see the younger guys taking up a nice hobby. I was all excited to hit a very large fairground near me and it was so full of trash, that it was overwhelming. I might hit again it after I can learn the etrac better and learn to block out the garbage.

Looks like you had a great time.

I am not offended about the plugs. I agree that the plugs looked horrible. We went a day after some major rain but about 3 inches down the ground was as hard as rock. The only thing we could do was scrape slowly down with our shovels. I am just as mad as you are with the two wheats that we hit. We were using so much caution and were pinpointing after every time we took some dirt out. The ground was not working to our advantage. After we saw what a mess the plugs were because we could not make a normal plug, we went and told the groundskeeper and he said it was ok and that about 70% of the field was dead already. Hopefully in my next couple videos you will see how neat my plugs usually are =P

You both are doing awesome, keep learning your machines, and learning techniques for better retrieval. You will only get better as long as your willing to put in the work and time. Listening to and taking constructive input can be a big help too. We are not here to down anyone(at least most of us) just to congratulate you and give pointers and ideas. Also to get encouraged looking at stories and successes. D.

Thank you so much. I really am glad that everyone here is calling me on my plugs though. It shows that everyone else here is very dedicated about this hobby and is trying to preserve it. It will be hard, since I have not been on the forums here long, to show them that I am very dedicated to this hobby as well and would die if I did any harm to it. Thank you for noticing that I am trying and that I do always hold myself to a high standard. Hopefully at some point, everyone can recognize me as a metal detecting enthusiast and not this young guy who will ruin it for everyone else. I am going to Pismo Beach this weekend so I can not wait to get out onto the beaches! I will for sure post all the finds I get on here! Best Wishes to you too!

I love all of the constructive criticism that I can get. It will only help me improve on getting better =P
