D2 noob program recommendations.

Hey all. I'm new to the D2 but have been swinging for over 10 years now with nox 600 and Fisher f70/f2 before that.

My new D2 is expected Friday.

I work 55hr weeks and my weekends are packed with honey-do lists and my daughters activities so me-time and especially detecting have been a rare commodity the last year or two.

I've been youtubing all week and anyone I trust that has posted programs are all tuned to earlier versions of the D2 and/or a year ago at least. I believe it's coming pre-programed in v2 and I'd like to keep it there unless someone convinces me otherwise to revert to an older update.

So, what I'm asking help with is besides Ratttleheads Silver Slayer which I intend to use on an old colonial honey hole I have killed with my Nox, does anyone care to share a deep program that would work on well plowed and sifted farmland? Coin hunting, and would like to avoid nails/round beaver pull tabs the best I can. This plot was loaded with silver and wheats once upon a time, but it's getting to the point where the easy ones are gone as i'm not the only person hitting it.

I'll be swinging the 9" so I'm trying to get the most stable depth I can for that specific permission.

I'll goof around with factory settings as I go, down the road, but would appreciate some input for this weekend so I can hit the ground running with my limited time.

Something to keep in mind regarding any predetermined settings to include the factory settings which are very good is this infallible truth that I learned many years ago.
Predetermined settings only serve to get you in the ballpark at best. It’s up to you then to pick the best seat. You must dial in the D2 to your particular environment.
Beach settings that I use here in Florida would fall short in Hawaii. Every environment has its own characteristics.
If the D2 is new to you, I suggest you use the factory programs, make it a point to learn what each setting does and how it affects D2 function. It won’t take as long as you might think. 😉
Soldier on and go for it.

Yes as to what Dan said I prefer sensitive FT and deep HC for land with some tweaks but the factory programs are a great start.

So far, learning how to navigate the settings has been more challenging than learning what the machine is telling me audio wise.

I darn near mastered the n600, but that was pretty simple and less customizable than this d2 by a long shot. The other challenge is learning the language XP uses on the display that corellates to what I'm use to with the Minelab setup.

For now, I'm just going over the places I'm very familiar with and have hunted with the f70 and n600 till they just weren't getting any solid or even iffy targets anymore.

Went to the farm with the d2 and found a 1876cc seated dime and one wheat in about 1hr I had before sundown on Saturday. It wasn't very deep but it found it and contrary to our YT Influencer friends, the signal wasn't slapping it hard. Was a lot more solid than any of the nails I was pulling but still a little scratchy.

Had to cut my last post short due to work so I dint get to finish my thoughts.

I'm a hunt by ear guy. So I'll learn the audio on this machine pretty quickly, although, after experimenting with a couple factory programs, DeepHC and Fast, I'm not crazy about them having two different tonal languages. That's kind of annoying and doubles the learning curve and being my free time isn't what it use to be, that's a bit frustrating.

FYI, I'm in northeast soil, so mineralization isn't too much of an issue for me. So deep isn't much of a concern as I know the d2 is capable.

I bought the d2 for its separation and unmasking capabilities as at this point I'm running out if local virgin ground and am hunting places either I've killed, or the old timers cleaned out the easy targets years ago and I'm nosing out the tough ones that today's tech is better at finding.

My need to learn the finer tuning of the machine is based on finding a balance between target separation and not losing too much depth. Especially on my other site, the colonial homestead where I've found deep silver and large cents, but also shallow trimes with the n600 6" coil that the 11" missed because there is alot of junk being it has been a town community center fir over 200 years.

I feel the d2 with 9" coil will be able to up my percentages of finding the hard targets as long as I can maximize its capabilities. As I've said, the audio is the least of my issues, it's the plethora of tuning options.

I would recommend version .71 with Silver Slayer settings EXACTLY and don’t touch it.

Interesting. That seems to be a popular sentiment amongst forum and FB hunters.

Unfortunately, my honey holes range from colonial farm, to busy colonial town centers, to wooded homesteads with miles of rock wall.

Are there any downsides to reverting to .71? Missing coins on edge or otherwise? Gold? Silver Reales?

I'm not married to large TDI with the 2.0.

Downside to going back to .71? IMO for what I do…no. If you’re after those kinds of places then you simply have to set your notch from something like 6 or 7 to the lowest number non ferrous you’re willing to dig. Silver Slayer was designed to avoid most low conductors and garbage items, but if you’re hunting places with gold coins that come in like foil…not gonna help you. It’s specifically meant for silver and I thought you were hunting old high conductors, I mustve missed what you were doing.

Congrats on the D2. To answer your original question on which programs to consider, I highly, highly recommend playing around with the factory programs (even just picking one or two initially) to start. As you've likely figured out, the D2 can feel like a different machine depending on the program you're using.

If you want to come close to mastering the D2, you should look at the different preset programs and learn what each setting does. I've had my D2 for around two years and I've only added one program that someone else came up with. Everything else on my machine is either a factory program or my version of a factory program tweaked for my sites -- for example, I have a version of Sensitive FT that works great on my Virginia Civil War sites.

People waste a lot of time trying out D2 programs that someone else came up with. The real power of the D2 rests in learning when to use each adjustment and then using it when conditions demand it.

I find the latest version (2.0) to be better than the earlier ones. The frequency max feature is nice, but you won't find it on .71.

Lol. It's not like raining gold coins.

I was blessed to find one. A 1853 half sauv at a 1700's church with my n600..Rang up a solid 13 which is in the nickle range with that machine. But, I'd be a fool to think there may not be more out there. The farm I talk of, I have heard one of the other guys who hits it regularly pulled a US gold coin. Obviously silver is extremely more likely.

I do have 59-65 notched in on my SS saved program as well as a DeepHC based program I saved that I tweeked a little.

Please let us know if your 'pounded sites" that you've hit with the Nox start producing again.
I have the D1 and wonder if the D2 would actually impress me enough to buy one.
I hope it works out for you.

Had off this week so was able to mess around a little.

The old farm. Found a 1800's seated dime and a few wheats.

Colonial homestead: Only had 1.5hrs to work. Found 1 merc, a few wheats. This place I have been pounding for over 10 years with f70 and n600 and multiple coils/single frequency/multi till i couldn't even get junk. So...I'm very intrigued with the d2 here.

Old Knights of Colubus building. Same as homestead. Pounded till quiet previously. d2 pulled a 43 silver quarter, 1 wheat and 4 or 5 modern coins.

Used silver slayer mostly, but before digging scanned targets with DHC, Park, Sensitive, and a slightly modified DHC I created just to see what they all did comoared to each other.

SS does very well tonaly for me. Although I'll admit the navigation and understanding of settings I'm still learning so getting the volume right in other programs to hit as hard and clear isn't where I want them to be yet. But I understand the d2 isn't as plug n play ready as the n600 was.

All in all, I'm liking it alot. Won't be selling the n600 for awhile though. I think my strategy going forward will be using the n600 on new sites and d2 as clean up on them or revisiting old faithful sites till I learn and trust the machine better.

Is there a way or is this a bug, the pinpoint feature has very low volume.

I didn't see a way to fix/address this in the Manuel.

Anyone have experience with this?

Hello, sure wish they were a bit louder '' but I drilled the end cap /. 1/8 " or your desired..put piece very thin plastic under the cap & made a difference.
