CZ6a Lemons?

I have 2 CZ6a's , both bought used.
They don't go as deep as what I read on the metal detecting forums (12" in air, 10" in ground on a dime).
In air, both detect a dime at 9". But in the ground, both detect it only to 6"I
Sent one to Nasa Tom for re=calibration.
Came back, still only goes 9" in air, 6" in ground (normal soil, not mineralized); identical to the Nokta Simplex (bought and sold)
What gives?
Do I have two lemons?
Nasa Tom said they use "matched" components, unless the components are exactly matched, performance will degrade.
I suppose that must be the case?

As I recall, a few rare CZ's get to 11 or 12 inches on a dime in air tests, most don't.

How are you testing in the ground?

Over the years the CZs depth reports seemed a little far fetched to me . I used CZ5 and CZ7a and CZ70 pro over the last 28 years and all of my CZs would air test with max sensitivity 4 on analog and 6-8 on the digitals, and would report 8-9 “ in air. The in ground reports from my test garden with copper penny/ silver dime at 10”. I never really dug coins deeper than 10” and can say that most of my great recoveries came in the 6” to 9” depths anyway. I personally don’t like digging deeper than that. I mostly search private property permissions.. if you hunt in all metal you might gain a couple of inches . I always hunted with disc 0 to hear the iron . I no longer have any CZs due to their weight. My 2 cents. HH Tony

I live in in south and my cz5 all I get on a dime is 10to 12 it depends if the ground is wet or dry.

MY Cz 6a was calibrated by Tom...He tested with both my coils. Big coil tested 12.3 in and small coil tested 11.3 in. I have been very happy with the unit.

I have a favorite spot at the salt water beach where a loading dock used to be. My Cz has been the best there over the years in that gravelly area. I’ve gotten very thin seated liberty dimes and other stuff there. Last few times out produced nothing but ocassionally I go back. It’s a very tough spot to dig in. I call it my “ secret spot at the beach”. Hope you are doing well Tex!!

My CZ-6 was converted to a 6A and gets 11". Bought it in '92 and when I sent it in years later for repairs I was told they saw parts in it they had never seen before, "how old is it?" lol
My 70-Pro & 3D were tuned by NASA Tom and have stickers saying 11-12 inches. He does nothing unusual just tunes it to specs. (Dave Johnson said there was a time when units out of
Los Banos were improperly tuned and manufacture was not as good on a per unit basis and that the First Texas El Paso are far superior.) I dig cents/dimes to 11-12".
