cz21 or excall11 new to water hunting 10inch or 8 coil

Guys i went up to gettysburg electronics today and he had a excall 11 with the 10 inch coil ,it was the thinner lighter coil ,he didnt have the 8 in ,he said most people are going with the 10 inch ,he said the older coils were heavier and thicker ,i know you surf guys have the 8 inch coils but are they the old style ???? If they are maybe ill be happy with the 10 inch in the surf with the newer style will be fine with the extra depth to boot ,opinions please .

i seen the 10 inch excall today the coils are lighter and thinner i might go with the 10 inch ? is your 8 inch coil the old style

I want to thank everyone for responding ,im going with the excall 11 , with the 8 inch coil ,less drag in the water ,better pin pointing, and i wont miss the small goods ,im setting the cz21 on the back burner for now ,the reason is i have a cz70 that i hunted with over the summer at the beach, and dug to many nails ,bobby pins ,dune wire ,and iron, however i did find the navigational device from the 1700s but i like the old coins ,and jewlery,my girlfriend keeps on hinting around for a diamond ring ,so i told her the machine comes 1st and ill find you some diamond rings sweets .So for 2010 i want to get rewarded for the hard hours i put in,IN more ways than 1 lol Merry Christmas & Happy new year Earl

When hunting the beach with the CZ70, were you using discrimination at 0 with nothing notched ? ( I have never used a CZ70 so correct me if I am wrong if that machine does not have notching). I have found that when beach hunting with any CZ, you have to listen to the iron and keep your discrimination at 0. Sweep from all angles and any repeatable low iron tone, move on. If you run at discrim of 1 or higher, and especially with higher sensitivity, iron will bleed through into the high tone and that will be all you will hear if you have the discrimination set at 1 or higher, since that eliminates you hearing the low iron tone. You will think it is a good high tone target and end up digging a nice, deep nail ! Did that about 1000 times in my lifetime until I figured out no matter how much iron there is, you have to listen to it when beach hunting.

Also, you can size up the target and listen to it in all metal ( autotune) and with some experience, can tell elongated objects such as nails and wire because coins/washers/grommets/round objects, size very small...especially when you pin point and continue to detune. Also, when detuning and pin pointing, a lot of times iron will not pin point in the same spot. Coins and such will not move from the pin pointed spot.

I have used both Excals and CZ's...like them both, but I prefer 3 tones and concentric coils. Just my preference. That's why I use my CZ6a and CZ20 on the beach and dig all targets that sound off with a mid or high tone regardless if a low tone is mixed in. The only targets I bypass are total low tones from all angles...and I still sometimes investigate and dig them if they pin point small or seem to be something I have not heard before. That's part of the fun...not knowing what it is until you dig it.

Like others state..you really never know until you dig it up. There have been lots of surprises over the years where I thought it was garbage and ends up being something cool.

I used auto mode 4 black and gray sand ,had to adjust sens level up and down ,i wanted to go deep for the 1/2 cent george 111 and the gold Gs,Fisher has a web site and on it you can down load the entire operating manual ,the cz70 pro has 4 tones ,the manual is 45 pages long ,therover i just got the fz12 sunray coil a few weeks ago, and looking forward to finding some older coins ,but i looking forward to purchasing an excall 11 with the 8 inch coil , soon and am focused on water hunting,i look forward to dig sand, and give the earth, and my body , a break lol
