CZ-20/21 vs Gold Bug Pro

I'm looking for a hotter machine to hunt small gold on the beach. The GB Pro operates at 19k vs the15k top freq for the CZ. I've seen a lot of good reviews for the GB Pro but I don't know if the 4k difference in freq would justify buying one. Of course the updated circuitry might. It seems like metal detectors that operates over 20k have difficulty ground balancing on a wet salt beach and are accompanied by significant loss in depth. Anyone have any recommendations?
Thanks. bjones

I would opt for the CZ.It was made for the beach and does very well. The CZ works on 2 freq. at the same time,3 kHz and 15 kHz. You also don't have to worry about it getting wet.One little oops with GB Pro and you're done.

Dry sand go GBP, wet CZ.

bjones,

I have several CZ's including a CZ20 that I use almost exclusively on wet salt beaches here in NJ. Awhile back I had a Gold Bug SE that I used and made a video on how it works on the wet salt beach in NJ. I worked very well, but the depth was no where near what a CZ can get in wet sand. The iron separating ability was better on the GB and it used a DD coil whereas the CZ uses concentric.

But the dual frequency of the CZ20/21 and the WATERPROOF control box sets it apart from the GB. Both will find gold rings, The GB would be much better in the dry sand finding small gold and possibly chains that had a pendant on them or a larger clasp. But venturing near the salt water with a non-waterproof unit is setting up for disaster. Not only that, but the salt air will find it's way in and you can't give the GB and fresh water bath after a hunt at the salt beach.

So I say the CZ20/21 is a no brainer for any salt water beach hunt. The gold will be found if it's there.

Small gold and salt water make for tough detecting. Neither the CZ-21, the ML CTX or Excalibur or any Pulse induction machine are as good for small gold (in or outofmthesalt) as a,19khz single freq like the GBPro or various other gold nugget optimized detectors. Of course, as others have pointed out, even the single freq. machines that can balance all theway down to salt water have poor depth when set up that way.

Rick,
I guess NASA Tom's right. The best you can do for small gold is a Gold Bug 2, just use to CZ for wet sand. I'm a little afraid of starting grass fires with a 71 KHz machine. I wish you hadn't said that about PI machines. I just loaded my Impulse in the truck. I'm gone to the beach. Later. bjones

Hety BJ, sorry about all the typos. I just sent you (I hope sucessfully) a PM. If you get it, please reply and I will try to hook you up with somebody in El Paso who can dig into the "crypt" and give you some. Info in your CZ-20.

Can anybody recommend any good references on ground and salt mineralization and on ground balancing a detector in general? I used to be happy with just using a metal detector. Now, for what ever reason, I feel the need to understand one. Thanks. bjones

Fisher has a lot od documents on their website - starting at page 24 og this document is a good overview by Dave Johnson - the Chief Designer at First Texas.

Why not look at the beach hunter id.Used in all metal mode and after a little practice, this machine will blow most other beach machines away on small gold. Also, the all metal mode on the bh has discrim in the form of different coloured led's.......not as accurate as full discrim, but it still saves you digging up a lot of iron.
The depth of this machine is outstanding and because I have took the time to learn it,i would pit it up against anything else on the market today inluding anything minelab has to offer........this machine will beat the minlabs hands down on small gold.
The bh is an often overlooked machine because it is complicated to learn how to get the best out of it.....many have bought one and then got rid of them because they have'nt found how to get the best from the machine.

I agree Neil the Beach Hunter is a great machine.Very under rated.

OK; I found it. It operates at about the same freqs as the cz-21. I'm looking for machine that will operate at a higher freq and ground balance on a saltwater beach. I've done enough research that I'm pretty sure it doesn't exist. bjones

GBP will balance to salt all be it at zero but it will find shallow gold on the wet sand and that's shallow 1 or 2" salt is one end of the spectrum and heavy ground minerals the other like in the 80's or more on the GBP so zero for salt 80's or more heavy ground minerals, so yes it does do it all but LOL

it does find small gold in dry sand even with the 11" coil granted the small foil is a test of anyone's trash tolerance.

shame they don't have a small coil for the whites DF I know its duel field but a small coil would be great !!

no machine does it all hey if they did there would only be one detector and everyone would use it

so really the question that is most important is what do I want the detector for??

AJ

As the above poster said....what do you want it for?I know you said small gold but how small is the gold you are after. My beach hunter has found me tiny gold stud earings which is about as small as you are going to get on the beach unless you are looking for natural flakes.I also use a garrett seahunter mk2 with the small coil which is also excellent on small gold but obviously its also excellent on tiny bits of iron too.
As you said, the machine you are looking for does not exist yet unfortunately.
All the best.

My CZ-20 is not finding gold rings like it used to. I know that because people are finding them in the places I've searched and by actual wet sand depth tests. Granted I've been out of the game for 8 years and I'm have to learn to tune it again but it's been erratic enough that I've lost confidence in it. I'm trying to decide on the CZ-21 upgrade (299. + repairs) or just buying a new detector. Right now if I buy a new one it will probably be the Beach Hunter which seems to be the best bang for the buck. I like the small gold capability of the 19 KHz machines, but I need the depth on wet sand. It's like you say, you can't get it all in one detector, so I'll fix my beach/ surf problem first and buy a second machine later. Thanks. bjones

The beach hunter WILL come close to what you want with excellent depth and sensitivity to tiny targets. The only thing I would say is that it takes a bit of learning to get the best out of it.......that is why the machine is often overlooked I believe.
Good luck with whatever you decide on.......i hope you start to get those rings again.
