Got out in my back yard with my ctx I found the screen A Little hard to see . I was using the stock coin mode with target trace on l have pounded my yard to death with my MXT PRO AND AT PRO ground is still frozen and could not dig butt from the numbers I got there are coins with trash with them just as soon as the ground thos out I will dig them I have only had the ctx for to weeks I find it fairly easy to use buttons settings ect ect I have built a mode mode off my own with exchange 2 now all I need is some warmer weather if you experience ctx users. Have any advice I would love to hear it thanks

Some things we have found out in the past was, be sure to remove the packing plastic that is on the screen when it comes out of the box and if you turn on the background light, it will really help. I have my light set on 4 and it really helps in the bright sun and shade alike.

I have the same problem with seeing the screen...plus the reflection bothers me a bit. I have my light brightness set at 10 and it helps somewhat but still is not as easy to see as my old Explorer II was. The only other problem I have is that it is awkward for me to press the pinpoint button. To me it is not as accessible as other units I've had in the past.

Minor complaints I know and I can live with them...but if anyone has any ideas on improving these them please let me know. I have seen some folks put a small cover across the top of their CTX screen to help out with the glare.

Yea seeing the screen is really hard for me to.I have to wear my glasses to see it. Soort of a pain but what can i say.
I was not going to mention it as i generaly dont complain much but since the pin point button was brought up i agree.I have about medium size hands and i have to put my thumb on the bottom left side of the screen to help hold the detector steady when i do use pinpoint. I dont use it unless there is a lot of trash and then somtimes it is the only way that you can pinpoint your target.

My griping is over.

Now i will add that the CTX is a heck of a machine in my book.
I am a newbie for sure but i think that is what is so great about the machine.A newbie like myself can go out and find coins if they are there.

just piddling

As far as the screen being hard to see. Others have posted that they have removed the plastic film and replaced it with another. I think the name of they type of screen cover was called Nu View. This is the type of screen protector used for laptops and tablets that reduce glare. I can't remember who posted the information but they provided a number and a name of a person that has the exact size that will fit the CTX screen. I used and anti glare screen protector that I had to cut. It works but the sun still causes problems with the backlight on and it was a pain to trim to fit.

You might be able to search this forum for screen protector or Nu View.

Search posts from Gatekeeper. The item is call NuShield Day Vue

...now hold on. You mean to tell me that at close to $2500, Minelab couldn't succeed in making the screen glare-proof?!!! That's the only complaint I've ever really had with my etrac, and I had been saving up for a CTX ever since it came out. Now I don't know that I want to shell out that much $$$$ for another machine that will provide me with the same frustration when I'm out hunting on a sunny day trying to learn the new detector, even if it is the best one out there otherwise. My old White's DFX did great in the sun, no problems at all. And I have friends with other detectors (less expensive than etrac or ctx) and they don't have any problems either. It was always just a bit embarrassing when I was out with them detecting on a bright sunny day and they'd see me turning my etrac this way and that trying to see numbers/depth and etc.. Sure don't want them seeing me having the same problems with an even more expensive machine, they already give me a load of crapola for thinking that I need to upgrade to a CTX in the first place. Now I don't know what to do. $2500 is hard to come by for me these days. Did someone say there was an aftermarket cover that has a hood? Where do I see those, anyone know? And do they make them for the etrac as well?

Any former etrac owners that have switched to the CTX that can answer this question? Does the CTX screen turn "black" in bright hot sun like the etrac sometimes does?

Day View screen saver by Nu Shield. It will cut the glare and save your screen at the same time. Nu Shield also makes one for the Etrac. The screen saver will set you back about $15.00 and you get two of them.

That is the "nature of the beast" for LCD screens. I am a retired surveyor and the handheld data collectors we used had LCD screens. Direct sunlight and too hot the screens get very dark to black. Get them out of the direct sunlight it will clear up. The ability to see the CTX screen is no worse (maybe better) than my E-Trac or XS used to be. Using the backlight helps the CTX screen be very usable........

I got a set of those Nu Shield covers and they are NOT cut to fit, at least the one I got was not. I had to do the scissor to get it the correct size for my CTX. A solution to the issue would be some sort of moveable screen, like tilt to the left for a right hander and to the right for a left hander. I learned to live with the glare and I really dont think any product on the market today will make anything 'glare proof'!

"Cut to fit" to me means you get to cut it to fit it. That is what I had to do, and was expecting to when I ordered it.
Sized to fit to me means it is already sized to fit the screen.

My CTX screen seems to be slightly curved. Will the Nu Shield adhere to that?

Yes. Make sure that the film is cut to fit the screen only.

Hey guys today I went to walmart and bought a pack of anti-glare film for the kindle fire and when I got home I cut it to fit my ctx screen and man O man does it help out ALOT!!!

I agree! That's the only gripe I have on the CTX. You would think who ever was testing this machine they would had noticed that.. Maybe they never took it outside?? Only way I can think of how they missed it! It's really bad,, they should of had tilted the screen slightly forward and made it where you could turn it side to side and or tilt it up and down. The after market hoods don't do much, I have 2, they are not long enough really, I have thought about cutting a piece of heavy paper and taping it around the control box.
Minelab is not the only machine that has these oblivious problems... I've had several machines , not saying brand, but you think " there is NO way, a person that truly metal detects had anything to do with the concept an d making of this machine" lol,,,
They should ask more detectorist prior to producing these high dollar machinces to save them loads of issues down the road....
