My CTX should be here today and I'll load this up.
But my question to Minelab is - Why not write a patch for the more than a small number of headphones that won't work when plugged into the main unit? (Regardless of who is at fault).
Very good Minelab and thanks for sharing this Dave. I will get my CTX3030 today and this issue has been painful to hear about. No we can only smile, be happy and detect without any shutdowns.
A small number of CTX 3030 units have shown a problem where they suddenly shut down unexpectedly.
The root cause was determined to be a miscommunication between the smart battery monitoring chip and the control box processor.
A result of this miscommunication is that the control box can mistakenly assess the battery to be low and initiate a managed shutdown of the system.
A software fix has been created to overcome this problem and is now available for download directly via XChange 2 or manually from theCTX 3030 download page as a file.
Instructions on how to reprogram your CTX 3030 to resolve this issue can be found here.
Mac users must use the Manual file transfer method to upgrade their detector.
Should you have any further queries, please do not hesitate to contact your regional Minelab office.
Gotta wait till i get home from work
Yea it is a nice feature, Just hope if & when they do any new features some are requesting,
They understand & give us the option to enable/Disable certain features, Update wise or in the options,
Only as not everyone wants the same features.
Does this update take care of that "unexpected error" msg. (also) that comes on the screen causing the detector to lock up?------Does it take care of BOTH the shut down AND "unexpected error" lock up problem?
Has anyone attempted the update using a Mac? It is supposed to be a simple drag and drop of the file into the CTX 3030 folder that shows up on the desktop when you connect the CTX 3030 to the Mac. I'm just pleased firmware updates are supported on both platforms.
Connect the CTX 3030 via the supplied USB lead.... Switch on the detector.
In "Finder" look at the devices top left and you should see a new drive called Minelab (that's your CTX 3030).
Drag the file you downloaded from the downloads folder, onto the minelab drive.
Once it copies over, eject the drive and disconnect the USB from the detector (don't switch off the detector).
The detector will do stuff and then ask you if you want to upgrade the firmware.... choose YES and then sit and watch it do more stuff.... then tells you if it was successful or not.... and then restarts.

Most likely they're related and caused from the same problem. You just get a different result from the error. Just a theory but plausible when you consider a sudden loss of voltage would cause an "unexpected error".
