I own a equinox 800 I have a friend who is thinking about wanting my equinox 800 for his ctx plus cash I've used the ctx and it will need a lower rod and maybe a new lock on the upper rod it doesn't stay in place but other then that it worked great! Now my equinox 800 needs nothing what do you all think 🤔 he is a great metal detecting bud we have been friends for years he just would like something lighter 👍

Stepping Back to fbs ?

First thing I would do is ask him to get what needs fixing on the CTX fixed because everything is expensive from Minelab. If I was him the first thing I would do is ask if you have any warranty left on the 800 , if you don't , he should go his way and stay friends and buds

There is a good reason your buddy wants a lighter machine . I stopped using my AT Max and my Safari . The 800 is a much lighter machine and allows for less fatigue. I have modified mine with a lighter carbon fiber shaft and also a folding control box handle. The whole unit fits in my backpack quite well . Its around 21 inches in the back pack. and just a couple of pounds.

That's an incredible
Yeah one of the last ctx I found in my area sold for $875 with 3 coils. Still had warranty on it as well.
That's insanely cheap for that CTX! I haven't seen anyone around these NE Kansas parts give up their CTX, especially with three coil options, for $875. Most go $1100 to $1000 especially if there's a couple coils included.

Jump on that deal. You can always make an adjustment at the locks. Is he trading for just the stock coil or a couple coils with the CTX? People are selling their 800's for $600 used and no warranty. The CTX is an amazing detector and you can't go wrong on this trade. Then if you didn't like it over the corse of a year or two, you could trade up to the CTX4040 when it's released in 2024.

Just stock coil

As far as that lower shaft slipping, and not staying in place....there was a guy that posted a quick repair vid 7 years ago on YT..
It consisted of using 2 zip-ties, and appears to fix the problem quite well.
*Caveat* - I've never actually tried this....YMMV, but it looks to me like it would do the job quite well.
Good luck, and HH...
