CTX in the Test Trench

Both points of view have been made. :stars:

BH Landstar asks about the 17" coil for the CTX, you may find this interesting.....

Take the detector out of auto + 3 mode and use it in manual mode with max gain / sensitivity setting, it should hit that 10" dime with the 17" coil. I would be very surprised if it does not hit that coin.

BH,

I agree that a 17" coil should hit a dime buried 10" deep in Auto +3 while running at a sensitivity level of 25. Air testing and in neutral dirt, it will hit a 10" dime with no problem but when you get in mineralized dirt, its a different story. I think the coil is great for coverage and depth when you're in neutral to low mineralization dirt, but when the dirt gets rough, the 17" coil penetrates similar to the stock coil.

Here I tried the 17" coil in manual 25 and then turned it up to manual 28 where I started to hear slight falsing to the side of the target. You will see that it won't lock on the 10" silver dime in this dirt.

Hmmm ! Interesting result.

My CTX can hit a clad dime at 10" with no problem with the 17" coil, so the ground where you are must be really mineralized to diminish the detecting range by 2".

On another note....
I see that I am not the only one that has a problem with the depth readout with the 17" coil, seems that yours and mine are reporting false depth info on targets that are seen under the coil. I sometimes get the same problem with the stock coil. I wonder if Minelab is aware of this small problem with depth being off.

Bottom line, ... the "trench" test is Not the same as real life detecting. Why don't you with the Vista Gold and your buddy with the CTX go on a real life hunt?? Compare each others finds each hour. Thanks again for taking the time to do the past videos.

I have to disagree with many people on here. I have been a CTX 3030 user from May 29, 2011 (came out May 2:geek: until this day. I am one of the best CTX users in the country hands down. (my opinion of course), so I know how to give it depth. I was with Carter filming this video and I can assure you that the CTX could not hit the 10" nickel. The soil around here is very hot and dense so detectors have a tough time going really deep. The Deep Tech is a great machine and will be my next purchase after witnessing what it can do. The CTX is still the best detector out there IMO.

Why don't you tell us what you REALLY think of yourself Jimmy.................

Fair test, and I pretty much knew how it was going to turn out. The same test with copper/silver coins obviously would be nice too ;)

I've been detecting with my buddy who has an another Bulgarian made detector (Golden Mask 4) and I can assure you that they are killer machines. They will hit both low and high conductors way deeper than the E-Trac, with 1/3 of the price tag, and it's all good. It's nice to have different machines for different purposes.

Well I'd say all you pro-deeptech people just need to buy you one from Carter, isn't that the idea?, and think yourself above the game. Just think of all that stuff everyone that doesn't use a deeptech will be missing :surprised:

It all depends what you hunt for and where. Bringing a Bulgarian machine to a park is not a good idea, as most of them won't knock out foil even with max disc.

The limited Disc with the Vistas make it a detector not so friendly in urban sites. Wish they put a dual Disc toggle (low range, high range). I think the Blisstool has a better Disc and its depth rivals any VLF.
