CTX and headphones.

Dan(NM)

Well-known member
I just got my CTX and plugged my headphones into the jack, I can hear the threshold in the phones, but, the speaker is still enabled as well. I setup the WM, plugged my phones into it and it works as it should. I used 2 different pairs of phones on the CTX and the same thing happens with both pairs. Any ideas whats going on?

welcome to the future of discovery :lmfao: discovering your headphones don't work.

easiest fix a mono male to stereo female adaptor , who knew after spending all that cash you still have to buy a 2 $ part to go detecting :ranting:

I don't think carrying the WM10 module around makes the CTX "wireless" that desirable.
It's just as convenient to run with a pair of wire headphones.
For mostly quiet areas I use the XP wired backphones if you like that style.
For $22 the sound is great and cool in the Summer ,,,you can plug them into the CTX and go detecting.

I even tried the UR30 phones that came with the machine and it still won't cut the audio off to the speaker.

I use a periscope probe, so I'm not concerned about being wireless. I'm just not too thrilled about having my speaker blasting away while I'm hunting.

Dan,

Have you tried using the WM without the ear phones. I use it that way at the beach and have
no problem with hearing it. You could even turn the volume down if you want to from the
right button on the detector. That's what I do and I mount it up on my left shoulder out of the
way next to my ear and run my threshold around 22 and can still hear it.

I have not tried the speaker on the WM 10 yet.I was just messing around with the headphones last night, while making some adjustments to the audio.

Now that is weird and makes me think it isn't the headphones/plug. Both my headphones from the CTX and Safari work fine on the CTX or the WM.

I love going wireless I have the wm wire tied to my headphones , but the headphones that came with the ctx should turn off the inside speaker mine do.

I've never had to send them a detector back for repairs so I'm not quite sure what to expect.

I have no doubt it's the plug on the back of the machine. All my headphones work fine on my Etrac.

The headphones that came with the CTX and my Jolly Rogers both work either plugged into the machine or using the module.

I did that, when I have the headphones plugged into the CTX both the speaker and the headphones are working.

Dickens is right. You are not running wireless if you are using the headphones and
have either the headphones or wm10 module plugged into the back of the detector.

Try it without the headphones. You may find out you like it. There is an order in which
you need to do it to get the hook up complete. First enable wireless on the machine,
then turn on the wm10 with a hard push on left button and the light above it will turn
green, then with a hard push on the right button (white button) the light above it should
alternate between red and yellow, then on your machine drop down one slot and
hit connect and it should hook right up. It will show which channel you are on but just
hit your menu button and it will hook right up.

I have a Safari also and my stock and my Panasonic ear buds work both with it and
the CTX but when you plug them in, it stops the sound from the speaker on the machine.
However, you do not have wireless enabled when you do that. Remember, ANYTIME
you plug into the back of the machine with either wm 10 or headphones, you are not
wireless

I have no problem when I plug my headphones into the Wm10 , it kills the audio to the speaker on the CTX. When I unplug my headphones from the module I have audio from the module but not the machine. When I disable wireless capability and run strictly headphones plugged into the detector I have audio in both the speaker on the CTX and audio in the headphones at the same time.

This will answer your question ,,,,,it just won't solve your problem :)

Well hells bells, the headphones that they ship with the detector don't even work right. That's a little screwy.

The stock headphones work fine as cheap headphones, but they suck at long duration detecting use. It's not that they "don't work", they just don't cut out the internal speaker. These are the same cheap headphones they supply with lots of machines. I always suggest buying a quality set of phones.

As for the WM-10, I love it. I hate going back to other machine where I'm tethered to it by my phones.

Just got off the phone with Minelab, I do have a defective headphone module that has to be replaced. Unfortunately they will not send me a new one until I send the old one in. I use a periscope probe I'll be unable to use the machine until I get a new module.
