CTX 3030 PROBLEM FROM NEW

HAS ANY BODY GOT THE 6'' COIL FOR THE CTX3030 AND WHAT DO THINK IS IT WORTH GETTING OR IS THE STOCK COIL A GOOD ALL ROUNDER ????

YES----"MANY BODYS" HAVE ACQUIRED, USED & LIKE THE 6" COIL----BUT----WITH ALL THESE PROBLEMS YOU ARE HAVING, I THINK YOU BETTER USE & ACQUAINT YOURSELF WITH THE CTX & STOCK COIL BEFORE YOU GO OFF ON SOMETHING ELSE!-----AND YES---THE STOCK COIL IS A VERY GOOD PIECE OF KIT.

Yeah work with the stock coil for a couple hundred hours to see what it can do well and if you have a need for a small one. A lot of guys jump from machine to machine and from coil to coil and I've learned that it's counter productive to do that. Minelabs come with that 10-11" coil because it's the best of all averages, the other coils are more for specific situations. The stock coil will find a very high percentage of what you're GOING to find. All of the CTX coils do well no matter what you do. But...you have to have a site that has what you're hunting first.

yes used ctx many times over the past couple years but not the 6'' coil ,,,so know how its works and it seems that you are a pro with one so what do you think of the 6"coil is it worth buying thanks

In the right situations its absolutely necessary, not just a "nice to have" item. You lose a little bit of depth and it becomes very hard to have good ground coverage because the area it covers is so small. But when the trash level is so high that is sounds like a kid is pounding on a musical keyboard (or so much iron that youre in a constant null) then a 6" coil can make those sites huntable.

yes sounds a bit like a mono garrett coil i had i think it was 8'' lost a bit of depth and seemed to find more small stuff like earring backs etc and was good in the trash thanks all for the advise , i am living in perth close to the swan river at the moment and from the grass to the sand is full of trash and then clears and then when you get to low tide starts going crazy again i think the 6'' will do fine there other than that not much use for it until i move to adelaide and probably do a few home sites and the beaches of course thanks again to all you pro ctx swingers ;-)

Could you detail your ownership and usage history with the CTX? I was under the impression that this one was your first and you were unfamiliar with it.

To add to what Jason said...many people have found stuff in really nasty areas with the larger coils but just because SOME stuff was found doesn't mean that's all there is to BE found, and people have seen this same thing with past machines as well. There comes a point where a physically smaller coil just simply takes in less info and gives the machine a clearer view of what's in that smaller sample, enabling it to tell you more accurately what's in there. It's more of a "north-south" issue than it is an "east-west" issue. If you saw off 2.5" of either end of that "hot detection strip" then that's a lot less interfering from possible nearby junk OR even other good targets. The 6" coil like any other tiny coil takes some serious patience and you just have to change the game plan. Limiting your hunting to a pre-determined small area makes it more tolerable, because you then don't feel overwhelmed by that entire park in front of you. But it's doubtful that the entire site would require a tiny coil in the first place. Maybe though...
Good luck with the new CTX and keep us updated on the finds! Most guys that have one certainly seem to enjoy it.

thanks i seem to of had the same deal with a 8" mono that i had from garrett some years back going from a 14'' dd , i know how good the stock coil is but didn't no much about the 6'' i will try the ground that is full of trash mainly bullets and lead some buttons and the odd bottle pull and see what shines through ,,i most likely get one in about two weeks i think ill just try the ground with stock coil first , the ctx hasn't been on this ground yet just a at pro wich seems to suck it all up until the trash'' that drives me mad so i have kept away ,, and will post some pics of the finds as they come in ,, i have been very lucky up to now with the finds as most or all parks have been done and the beach is very clean this place is in a very wealthy part of perth and is a bit out of the way so no one has found it and is very hard to find any history on it , i asked an old lady in her 90s and she said the army used to camp on this ground not shore if she meant 1st or 2ww war might be both the coins are from 1870 to 1950s no modern coins ;-) and one japan 1/2 sen from the 1870s so ,,THANKS FOR PRO ADVICE ;-))

When trying to answer someone's questions, it helps to know their level of familiarity with the machine. eg, if you've had and used one for a year, we'll use different terms than if you just pulled your first one out of a box. Your previous posts read like this was your first use, then you threw us a curve- thus the request for clarification.

In your first post, I think we read as if this was the first time you ever pushed a power button on a CTX and responded accordingly as if you didn't know what was normal. Obviously if you have used one for a while (and prob got advice on it from the lender friend as well), you know much more about what to expect than a total noob.

Glad your dealer took care of the problem; Best of Luck with your new CTX!
