Called KellyCo and the Minelab Repair Tech Didnt even know yet and was going to get on the phone and speak with Minelab directly
to see what the upgrade would cost

The Tech knew, he has known for months, but no prices have been released.....

Since you know them so well, I would say that statement is VERY DISTURBING! Why would the repair tech, who has known about this for months, lie to a customer? It's not hard to say they don't have pricing for parts, or what ever the reason is. Dishonesty is never acceptable!

He didn't lie to the customer, he didn't know the cost of the new seal or arm cuff and said he would call Minelab in Chicago to find out the cost. Duggar called their repair center the same day product was released on the Minelab web site, the Minelab tech was not aware Minelab has released the product notice, there are also no seals or arm cuffs parts in stock for upgrades yet according to the techs at Kellyco, they are waiting for the parts.....

You do realize companies will not allow their employees to release info on new products till they are given permission to release it to the public.

Just a heads up. I talked to Minelab before I found out the one I ordered already had the upgrades. The tech told me if you recently purchased your CTX they would do the upgrades for free. Might be worth checking for those of you who just got one recently.

I saw the New battery seal arrangement today and will vouch that it is very good and worth the upgrade.

As far as updates I don't see any . These are fixes for a poor design that there going to charge us for the battery fix is going to be 129.00 which is not bad if you need another battery . But this problem was from the start and then 4 years later wow a fix appears 4 years come on that fix should have been in the first few months and should of been free .
So as I see going on 4 years and no updates
When the new minelab 4040 or whatever comes out I will be lurking to see what they screwed up on that model before I purchase it .
I still like my 3030 but even if they come out with the 4040 you may have to wait 4 years before they address the problem and then pay for it .Come on minelab get on the ball and quit gouging your customers and 4 years to address problems is just poor business .
So minelab I'm still waiting for a real update not fixes I have to pay for that were poor design from the get go . sube
.

Does anyone know if the screen has been fixed.....mine still has the rainbow effect (even with the screen protector on)
I really like the CTX3030 but have to admit that Im feeling a bit "RIPPED OFF" if this has also been fixed

rluka,

That rainbow effect was determined to be a polarization issue with either certain sunglasses, or certain screen protectors...ESPECIALLY the screen protector the CTX shipped with.
If your screen protector is still on, that may actually BE the problem.

For a detailed explanation from 29 Jun 2012, see this Minelab Product Notice:

Hope this helps,

they sure are not Makro or Nokta who want to be the best and listen and not rest on their Loral's like minelab, its fine to offer fixes but I paid the same price as new buyers I don't get the fix on the arm cuff for free ??

so well said sube minelab are starting to get a bit on the nose!!

good technology , but no common sense seems they go hand in hand so called smart people have bugga all common sense , sorry if you are smart and have some maybe you can apply for a job at mini labs !!

happy minelabing with the past of technology or was that the future :lmfao:

I will have to check it out then..thanks for the info

They treat people like Harley Davidson does, if you have a Harley you'll know what I mean.

CTX machines still under warranty should have this work, needed parts to customers-- at no charge.

This is shameful to say the least.

They have admitted to 2 problems - deficiencies with the update

A seal problem
And a cam lock problem

So this looks like defects in materials and workmanship --- clearly addressed in their warranty.

Pony up Minelab -- fix these units under warranty.

squirrel1 No I well say again all machines in warranty and out of warranty should be repaired by minelab the ctx is suppose to be waterproof to10 meters or feet whatever if not this is false advertising in a court of law any product not living up to the advertising what you can do and not do with it is false advertising should be replaced by manufacturer .
If you have a 4 year old ctx and use the original battery pack and place in water do you feel lucky I'm sure if it leaks and destroys your machine at present you will eat the lost. It clearly states to 10 feet so if the product does not live up to the expectations then it is fraud .
When I purchased my ctx they said nothing about charging me 129.00 for a new battery pack to eliminate leaking of the battery compartment it was suppose to be waterproof to 10 feet . without the new battery .:ranting: sube

Sube,
I agree they should have designed it better to start with.

I also feel a manufacturer shouldn't warranty or do free repairs/ mods on a unit for an eternity.

But they do warranty their units, and should be standing behind it all the way.

This is one of the most expensive,Vlf detectors if not the most expensive.

I applaud them for coming up with a fix
I don't understand why it took so long.

Pretty simple fix really-- no huge engineering degree needed to discover or,design.

But I suppose folks will let Minelab get away with this and keep, buying their CTX detectors.

I'm a pretty level headed guy, I think.
And I think Minelab needs to put this behind them-- by doing the right thing.

And just imagine-- they have had a promotion as of late-- free . 17" coil with purchase.

Sounds like if they could indeed do this ---- how much $$$ did they make off of folks who either payed full price for a detector with just stock coil, or bought the 17" coil afterwards, separately??

And maybe for those with the older units still under warranty who don" t water hunt. Maybe they could instead of the update, be offered the 6" coil instead.
Sounds like a plan to me.

What do you mean? The HD dealer treated me like royalty when I was looking to buy my Ultra, well that is until AFTER I bought it and they cashed the check. Then I was just another bum off the street LOL!

Very funny but true ! They are the worst to deal with after the fact and I know everyone just about feels the same and it's really putting a hurt on them.

Just maybe it was made that way for their benefit ??? These big companies are pretty smart these days. They know how to keep making money on you after the sale. I see it more and more. Harley Davidson started it all  They are the best at it. They even get away with it. Nobody is honest anymore it's the new America. Sorry to say that.

Minlab really needs to address this issue as warranty or at least goodwill it for those of us that believed in the company and spent over 2000.00 on a detector we believed and they told us was the very finest on the market today. Ebay will be full of these and then the credibility of the company will be damaged dramatically.

Looking forward to picking up some $100 backups off ebay.......!
