Went back to the field that ran alongside the rural road. Started detecting, and was challenged again by the Hounds of Baskerville. I took some balogne with me today... OK, how far do you think you can throw a piece of balogne? Like a frisbee, maybe 12 feet. They weren't going for it. They came in closer, 3 times today. Instead of reaching for the balogne, I was easing my hand toward the revolver in the shoulder holster. They looked a little too threatening to be taking pictures of at 10 feet away.

Anyway, after the demon dogs left, I found my first bullet: a fired 3 ringer. Always happy to see a bullet.

Got a nice sweet signal, but it was only reading 3" depth; was surprised to retrieve this large cent. Its pretty corroded, and can't make out the date yet, but it is covered with a nice green patina.

Hmmm... this is interesting. I wonder if its what I think it is.

Walked into the little patch of woods trying to find the old graveyard the guy told me was there; still haven't found it. But did come across this possum that I thought was playing possum, but nope; deader'n a door nail!

Yep, its a side plate and hammer off a percussion firearm. I am guessing Civil War. Just not sure what that hunk of metal is in front of the hammer, must be something that swung around at one time and is now frozen in place with rust
