It only took me 51 years of detecting to find one and this one come with quite a story. I have been all over the country looking for anything marked CS Virginia, Carolinas, Louisiana but I found one right here in my own back yard and at my great X3 grandparents' homestead. The half dime and sash buckle round out the silver. An Infantry and decorated flat button were the only other buttons. Cool little teardrop bullet and round balls finish the lead out.

Quite a hunt with a whole lot of goodies topped off with some southern CS.! Goodness, congrats, congrats, congrats!

Congratulations! Awesome, awesome finds!

Great Save of the CS button and the other finds. What a story you have too, that accompanies these finds. Is there any stories that can personally tie your Grandparents to these buttons? Do you know if your Grandad was a veteran of the CW? Could this button have belonged to him, or could he have returned home after the War with this button as a souvenir? I don't know which state these were found in, so this is why all the questions. Always fun to ponder these things. Congrat's on some nice CW artifacts.

Found in North Missouri no where near a battle. Great, great, great, Grandpa was called up in '63 but I can't find any service records. His brother in-law saw considerable action in the south so who knows he might have brought back some trappings. We have found 2 of these rare buttons so I am hoping to find a whole coat full LOL
