I've considered getting a carry permit, but being cheap, I hate to spend the extra $$$.
But it would come in handy as I would be able to carry in the car both in TX and when
I cross the state line into OK. Without the permit, I can carry in the car in TX if traveling,
but have to stow it away before entering OK as they do not allow a weapon in the car
without a permit.
So... so far I just keep it in the trunk in both states. But I really don't feel like I need it
too awful much when driving anyway. I mainly want it when I get up to my place in the
sticks. More for four legged animals, than two legged..
But as far as the house, I don't need any kind of permit to be able to use a firearm to
defend myself. And TX is a castle state.. Not a good state to be a burglar..
I have a .40 cal pistol within arms reach all the time here at the puter. I'm usually in
the back of the house, so if someone kicks the door in, I should have enough time to
grab it if needed.
Like I say, a permit would be handy, but I don't feel it should be needed to exercise
ones 2A rights. I partially view it as a money grab by the various states. And being
cheap.. :/ Maybe some day.. One other advantage is less hassle when being pulled
over. If I have firearms in the car, and no permit, they have to determine I'm not a
felon, etc, which can take a few minutes. With the permit, you are "pre-checked"
so to speak, and they don't need to do all that. In TX, they know you have a permit
even before they ask about any weapons, as the permit is tied in with the drivers
license as far as their puters in the cars.
