Call this a peeve o' mine but as i said, i take respect to our Nations' colors very seriously.
Far too many Americans have literaly died for those colors and to give them or Her, any less would be sacralidge.
When i see a flag displayed wrongly or worse, neglected,i knock on the door and respectfully let them know.
I usualy get a "thanx,i didn't know that" and they imediately correct it.
And of course, i get .."F*%^ of, i'll do anything i want with MY flag"
( sadly i get that mostly from Veterans. They say, i served or fought for that flag and i'll do as i damned well please with it )
I have 'confisctaed' flags that i have seen badly torn, faded or on the ground.
THey are delivered to a local VFW that has an old mail box painted red outside for folks to deposit old worn flags into.
They then take them and ceremoniously dispose of them.
Check this out. I saw a badly wind torn flag on a walmart building once on an extreemnly windy cold winter night.
I went in and asked for the manager and then informed him of the condition of the flag.
Without hesitation, he went and retrieved a new flag from the store shelf and went up and replaced the torn one.
He even had the foresight to think about it's proper disposal and asked me if i knew how.
On the flip side o' that. A local antique store had a naked female manequin on thier front step and she was wrapped with
a 4x6 American flag.I went in, asked for the owner, and politley asked to please take the flag off of the manequin.
He imediately verbaly attacked me and attempted to put hands on me and throw me out.
I went back a few hours later and the flag was gone.
I believe Bob that flag ediquete is something that should be taught to our kids in grade school.
Oh, and yes, that does indeed match up with my understanding.
I'd like to add one thing.
This gits under my skin the most.
When people, especialy places like firehouses and or local Govt. offices( people that
should know better),
display a flag with the Union to the right. That type of display is reserved ONLY for the casket of an American service personele.
Aside from that, the Union is allways displayed to the
publics' left.
Let me add Bob, thank you for takin the time to read the code.
