CORTES FINISHED IN LAST PLACE,,,WHY???

A lot of variables can happen and the operator is a big part of it. Just today I got out for a short hunt with the Cortes, short because I use All Metal mode and combine that with a headache in a nail infested area, I just couldn't take it anymore.
But I hit this area with other machines and especially under a oak tree that I have hit hard since I found silver there before. Well I figured maybe there could be some new surface targets since I seen kids grouped under this tree as I drove up. After they left, I swung the Cortes in there knowing there are loads of nails, but tried listening carefully. I was surprised that I hit a 42 dime that I somehow missed before. Then I dug up a junk ring that was deeper than any of my previous digs in this area with other machines. I don't know how I picked these out of there, and the nails were pounding my already pounding head. I don't use the Cortes much and I haven't really had it very long, but for whatever reason I picked it today and dug the ring at a depth that surprised me. Something I can't explain but the Cortes sniffed that ring which I almost missed, but something in the audio with short sweep at a particular angle got just enough of my attention to dig. And how I missed the 42 dime in the past - dunno  I was expecting maybe a surface target or two and ended with a little digging.
I think with the variables - some days I got it and some days I don't - no explanation - but today the Cortes did better than I expected or should I say the Cortes and me with a pounding headache, and squeezing my head with headphones.
