Cortes ........another surprize.................

Went hunting yesterday with a friend who owns a CZ7. We decided to go hunt under the ski lifts.......no snow here yet, and look for older "missed" finds. The most bountiful area that produced really well....was closer to some high tension power lines. My Cortes could almost work under them!!! The CZ7 had to stay 50 feet away!!! And I guess lots of the folks who did manage to hunt under the lines must have had their discs turned way up!! I actually dug 28 nickels ...( a personal record for one hunt ). In there......yes you guessed it..... a smaller ladies 14K band that read at "nickel". Here's the weird part of this experience..... I hunt as I usually do with my disc set at halfway between "min" and "iron". I could only detect about 50 percent of the nickels at the iron disc level !!! Interestingly enough; the ring would barely make a peep at the iron disc level yet rang out loud and clear at the mid point between min and iron. Must be something in the soil. My buddy with the CZ7 located tons of rusted bottle caps (as usual....so did I when I owned one of these) and only a handful of change.........only 6 nickels. I know the Cortes is not for everyone but in my case this is a super detector..........wonder why so many people put it down???

of the other more current models is due to the labeling on the Disc. control.

These models had one thing in common:

The Deep Search models, Aztec, 'original' Cort

I'll have to try that 1/2 way between min & Iron disc thing...I've had mine at Iron.....I was running the sensitivity at 4 the other day like you suggested and I found it still hits hard on targets....deep ones too.

The other thing I'm noticing is that the detector ignores bottle caps very well.......I realized I wasn't digging any and then I ran the coil over some spotted on the surface and they were cleanly ignored. Not all detectors I've tried can ignore them as well.

I've only recently been reading about the Cortes, but I've only seen the one person not like it.............I've seen some people bash the deleon though. Who knows if that one was faulty........and I guess you have to know the limitations of the detector............it doesn't hit as hard on aluminum, Iron, or relics like the newer "hot" series, but I see that as an advantage. I'm not digging as much junk.

Its a "super detector" to me too.

you would notice that the bottlecap rejection that is so clean.............................. would degrade if you significantly increase the sensitivity. When I owned a Fisher CZ5 I noticed that it's best operation was at the lower sens setting of "2", at this setting it was getting the depth of my other detectors at "8"!!!! The choice spot for the Cortes sens setting is definitely "4"" as you have indicated. You "will" hit gold rings at 6 inch depths........and you can then thank me. What you need to do next is set the disc at midpoint between "min" and "iron" and then let us know how your trip went. Be prepared to be surprized!!!!
