Cortes and new 5.75 coil.

The parks around here are FULL of trash,so I thought I'd try a smaller coil on my Cortes.I found out one thing quick, the 5.75 IS small!

The issue I am having is the depth readings are completely wrong with this coil, and the ID is useless. With the stock 8x9,I have been able to distinguish most targets, and the depth is real close.

I guess my questions are, should I put the 5.75 on my Silver Umax, and make it a tot-lot machine,or can I get my Cortes adjusted to use the small and large coils?

Also, what about the 8" brown donut from the Silver, will it work on the Cortes?

TIA for any advice,if I posted as much here as I lurk,my post count would be through the roof.

The Cortes has a preset GB in disc mode. Any different coils other than the 8x9 that comes with the Cortes will have to be tuned to the detector. It will work if you hunt in ground balanced all metal. You will most likely have to send all the coils that you plan on using along with the detector back to the factory to be tuned. Bummer, but fact of life.

As far as working (not necessarily as in optimal) any of the umax 5 pin coils will work on either machine.

You have to send the machine and coil back to the factory to be optimized for each coil as you use them ? ......That's NUT'S !!!...... Mepot , I would see if there is a consistancy in the bad readings ....In other words , lets say that a target is 5 inches down, and the machine is reading 7 inches .....Or if the target is 2 inches down and the I.D. is reading 1 inch .....Whatever the discrepency is , see if it's consistant and just allow for it each time you switch coils ...Keep a ruler and pad with you , and write down your finds and how deep they are .....If there is a consistancy in the offset , you will get use to that offset when running that coil .....SAD to have to do this , but it sure beats sending the machine and coil into the factory every time you want to change the coil ..... One saving grace is that it WILL work in All Metal mode .....That's at least a work around .....Jim
