continuing thought on lack of beach finds......

this is more of what it used to be like.... 25 yrs ago when the family started going to OBX, I could/would come home with roughly 25-30 bucks in found change and a gold ring...fast forward to today, ( 2023,2024 ) maybe 6-7 bucks in change total and a junk ring or two.

So, as was already stated, people are just paying thru their fones and not bringing it down to the sand... and junk metal is replacing gold and silver for jewelry. Will try again at the end of august ( 2025 ) and see if better luck is ahead.

Maybe try July 4th week. Probably bigger crowds and party goers

I used to go to the the beach in late September, but accidentally planned a trip right after Labor Day and I had way much better luck!
Now I go on Labor Day and stay a few days after that..
The reason I used to go in September was because it would be cooler by then, but finds were pretty scarce.
The first time I went on Labor Day, I found plenty of targets on the beach and quite a few along the surf line., but as the days go on, it gets slower and slower.
With that said, I have noticed not as many targets even then like my first trip there.
Lots of factors contributing to lack of finds now it seems.

Felix... I'm optimistically hopeful the labor day week will show more finds in the sand. The crowds should be still relatively large tho the kids should be back to school by then. The nox 600 will find it if its in the sand.

I’m sure there will more folks there during that time and hopefully more goodies too
Than when you usually go later in the year..
It sure has been for me.
It is slow where I go too if I go later in the year.

It’ll never be as good as it was. People use credit/debit cards for everything and spend thousands on tattoos instead of jewelry.
Not only day of the year but time of day too. Evening into night will yield more than mornings in busy areas.

Don't forget there are way more detectorist with water detectors that did not exist in 1965!
Ah, for the day of 5 or 8 gold ring was a BAD day at the beach. Let alone over 100 coins a day.

Good oll days.
Back in 74 I'd come home with pockets full of silver.
And I was just poking around in yards on my block.

You also have to consider just how many people are metal detecting now compared to years past, I think everyone who goes to the beach has a metal detector. I'm constantly ignoring people who see me metal detecting and want to be my buddy or emailing or PMing me looking for a friend who just wants to see where I'm detecting because they have run out of good spots where they are at.

I remember stories from a couple of detectorists that kept logs of all coin finds and each had highlighted finding their FIRST clad dime, quarter and half. Now we highlight finding a silver coin. How times have changed. I would guess that in time it will be rare to find a coin.

Oh you mean that folks won’t have change to lose because of plastic. Yeah, that has been a problem and will continue. We hobbyists should petition more concession stands at every beach. That way sales will help generate loose change

I've seen ice cream carts on the beach (the ones where one person is pushing them up and down the beach looking for sales) where they have card swipe terminals for sales transactions. Talked with one of the gals last summer and she said they prefer that because it reduces the chances of being targeted for theft. The technology is going to rid the beaches of change unless we get big cuts that expose old drops.

I can remember in Daytona Beach back in the 60's and 70's, you couldn't throw a rock or shell without hitting a vendor truck. They used to rent floats, chairs and umbrellas, little honda scooters, not to mention various foods. But now, you rarely see a vendor truck on the beach. I don't think they even rent floats or chairs and umbrellas.

I don't think they even rent floats or chairs and umbrellas.
Chairs and umbrellas are rented all along Daytona Beach. They are so expensive to rent that when we flew into the area, we would buy chairs and an umbrella at walmart and give them away to others on the beach on the last day of the trip. Now that we are retired, we drive there and take our own.

Been very good where i am I found a low tide spot that was used as a swimming area with minus tides that has never been detected.
I have pulled two gold class rings 1938 1948 four in total one diamond from the beach area and silver back to 1850's
you really have to search out older spots I like the areas with lots of rocks! Here’s some recent finds and what the area looks like I found 3 silver halves on one flat oldest was a 1911 D barber only 600,000 minted The first photo was this past saturday 6 silvers in about 2 hours.
