Confused...

Been reading a few posts here...a few answers might help me.... Is the F-75 a machine to be compared to the Explorer depth wise? What type of depth are you guys getting? I seem to only get 6-7 inches with my dfx...tons of coins...but not many deep signals....I am going to try every deep program I can find...if they don't work am I buying a F-75 or an Se? I would like to see some hits at 8.0 when I hunt...

I have been trying to tell you that the DFX is just a clad magnet. I regularly pull coins down to 12-13 inches with the F-75. Also it is so fast on recovery that coins do not get masked.
As I stated before Sell the DFX, buy a used EX2 and get a new F-75 and you will start finding silver and have all your bases covered

I am going to try every deep program for the dfx this week..will use stock and 5.3.... My silver finds have come up a bit...but my concern is depth..... I am tired of reading exploer users and now....F-75 users getting great depth...seriously I expect to go deeper or get another detector for spring... I stopped digging so many pennies and my clad amounts are getting even higher....will cross $700 for year in a few weeks...you are right the dfx...is incredible with clad...but signals past 6.0 or 7.0.... Could be looking at a F-75 or an Explorer very soon...

I went over $700.00 in just clad quarters from November to June (here in FL) with the EX2 and then I got the F-75 and took 2 trips to Upstate Ny where I found the silver in the pic in Oct and pretty much the same in July along with some silver rings and $40.00 in clad each trip and the areas I hunted had been hammered to death. I will tell you that when you can use it the F-75 is the deepest, fastest detector on the planet and I find myself using it more and more and leaving my explorers in the truck. BTW I have a 5, 8,10.5, 12 & WOT coils for the ex2's and am waiting for the small coil for the F-75
Forget the DFX programs as I pretty much ran them all when I had my DFX and I decided that I would rather hunt and find good coins than keep screwing around with the adjustments on the DFX

Pretty simple really, the DFX is a fine machine in it's own right but not known for pulling real deep coin like objects when compared to the Explorer and or F-75. In my experience, any CZ series Fisher will hunt deeper than a DFX.
For what it's worth, NOTHING that I've ever air tested even comes close to the F-75 .... but you don't find the goodies in the air :heh:
I lived in Pensacola for 25 years, the soil and the beach is almost mineral free, matter of fact, the Whites machines I tried on the beach would always display ( Cannot Ground Balnce ) and would go into factory pre-set GB mode from lack of minerals to balance against !!!
My point is this: I could EXPECT the maximum depth out of any and all machines I ran there on the beach and just about anywhere else I hunted inland and the DFX was no depth monster by a long shot. It did OK but then again I could go just as deep with any medium priced ( $300 - $400 ) unit in my arsenal as I could with the DFX and that should NOT be the kind of results one should expect from Whites flagship detector.
After running the DFX for 11 months or so I gave up on it ever giving me the kind of results I was looking for, and, I couldn't keep from ADJUSTING it everytime I put my hands on it and that's a BAD habit to get in to. I know this reads like I'm beating up on the DFX but that's not my intentions, but hey, you asked. I can say that it handled great, pinpointed great, and I loved the tones that Whites puts into their units.
The MXT seemed to work better for me that any other Whites I've owned, especially since my main interest has turned to relic hunting over the last few years.
Have over 6000 hours with the Explorers, they WILL FIND THE GOODS .... plain and simple, and they will find them deeeep too.
Now the F-75 is one of my absolute favorite 2 machines of all time, it's extremely fast, gives the user plenty of ground and target information, easier to handle than anything in it's class and every bit as deep as a Nautilus, Explorer or whatever within equal coil sizes.
Oh .... and lest not forget about the nice little backlight and battery economy that is 2nd. to none !
You'll do good with either choice, the Minelab Explorer is a fine machine, just be willing to put in quite a bit of earnest learn time to make it work for you.
The F-75 will still take some time to learn but it's easier to understand .... given your experience, you should have NO problem with either :detecting:

Good Hunting
Mike

Have you hit many areas with the F-75 that you considered hunted out with the explorer? And if yes did you find much more? I have both and so far not getting a whole lot more with the F-75, not sure it is operator inexperience, lack of additional coins, or ??

Chris

the question is which one will ID deepest and I think the Explorer win's that contest.. .however, the F-75 is no slouch and may well go considerably deeper than any other detector in static AM mode. It has TID in static AM too... so there you go. (Thinking as I write...) I wonder if switching to static AM to check a deep target would improve the TID on the F-75 ??? I have got to check this...

I'd be hard pressed to make that call in all honesty.
Reason being, to many factors like ground temperature, matrix, moisture content and so on when trying to make reasonable comparisons.
Multi frequencies verses single, not exact coil sizes ... well ... you get the picture.
I've pulled good targets with the F-75 from sites where I used the Explorer exclusively before but later visited the same site with the Explorer and hit targets again.
I like to believe that we (detectorist) simply hit targets that we THOUGHT should have been heard before because we simply went over the target that day and didn't previously, hell, I don't know.
The only way to be sure is to grid off a small section and hit it with everything you have, front, backwards and sideways until nothing else hits and then hit it again with the different detector and see what pops up :smoke:
All in all I think the Explorer and F-75 are pretty evenly matched ... or better yet, compliment each other in a very good way.
Which one is DEEPER ??? Either one of them is deep enough for my liking.

Good Hunting
Mike

IT IS WAY DEEPER THEN YOUR DFX> IT IS WAY FASTER AND WAY LIGHTER!

say they love F-75being light weight.... also saying it goes deep... Lightweight and deep.... hey does it have a depth reading...not sure but I think explorers do not dfx does...but with the dfx not sure why...not finding anything deep anyways.... But the depth reading is nice to have to save time... I am going to go somewhere that there are deep coins this week...try a few dfx programs I have been given... Finally had some rain here...if no improvement might be in the market for another detector soon...

Don't much care about totals I was just using that to make a point. I would rather dig one merc than a pocket full of clad quarters any day.Problem is down here the silver is few and far between so you just take what you get but there are clad coins here that are 12 inches +

The DFX is a great machine but even no you can program the recovery I never noticed it being fast. It has a lot of great ways to program it and a ton of coils but it was never deep and the F75 has most of the programing you will even need. The small coil is great so now I have all I need. On the DFX the best thing to do is not use much disc. Try it with say oo and lower and leave everything else in you will get a lot of beeps but just dig the numbers you want to.

I have had both a minelab EX II and a SE. I loved both the SE and EX and are very good (depth) with a 8" coil. After using the F75 for about a month ( to make positively sure) i sold both minelabs. So YES..... the F75 is THAT good.

Both the minelabs and F75 have on screen depth meters. The f75 tells depth in inches on pinpoint mode. Its a VERY good machine you wont be sorry for getting one. Best machine of all that I have owned. Garrets ace 200, Whites IDX (great machine for the $$$), Whites MXT, Minelab EXII, Minelab SE and then F75.

I also use an SE, but the 75 is fun to hunt with. It sees everything in the ground and I like that. That way you can just pick out the good sounds you want to investigate. I really feel "some" of then bad raps it was getting was due to operators not realizing how much power it had...me included. It's a great machine. I am waiting for a small DD. Get a 75 and sell the DFX or keep it too, .....for a backup!. Chris

If you don't have the money for the F75 get any Cz they are all deep. It is not always the depth that counts I have found a lot of great old coins and relics that are about 3 inches the deepest was a large one cent at about 13 inches. Yesterday I found a lot of wheats at about 8 inches and I use the F75 all the time becasue of the seed and unmasking.

If you use it correctly. I too thought at first it wasnt too good, but experience (and paying attention to the manual) taught me other wise. ANY machine will Id targets a bit off at extreme depths. I dont care what it is. (Yes, even the exploders). If you center the target, and make a nice crisp swing, the F75 ID 's quite well. MUCH better than the DFX ever did. Swing it a bit faster and wider when IDing than your instincts tell you to, and it ID's much better.
