I wear a well made repo version of the oval "NC" and always thought it would be so cool to find one! Good job ! What machine are you using???

Reminds me of the one I found that was years ago and still talk about it way to go thats awesome!! I cleaned mine with a extra soft toothbrush and dried it off and that was that.

Using a Whites 5900, tried Fisher.Whites XLT, Whites Blue&Gray (which is really a Whites 6000di), Garrett and went back to the Whites 5900. In this area I can tweak it real good and go deep, however, I am considering a new machine this year because the spots I hunt have been pounded for years and though there are still relics at the sites they are very deep as was this buckel which I almost did not dig because of the weak signal. We have a lot of "hot rock" around here

MY OH MY...MY OH MY.....Should rate as one of the best, If not the best CW fine of the year. I'm with Da..don't clean it. A soft brush some joy and water,,,thats it. Way to go TomB:clapping::clapping::clapping:

I assumed you realised the value or I would have posted earlier. "The Civil War Collector's Price Guide" (11th edition) on page 45 values this tongue and wreath (two-piece) sword plate at $7500+ for an excavated example, depending on condition, and yours looks to be in quite fine condition. (Do you have a safe deposit box?)

The book by Howard R. Crouch, "Civil War Artifacts", states on page 215, "These were made like the more common CS two-piece and were affixed to the same type of sword belt but are very rare."

Congratulations! Truly the find of a lifetime.
