WOW!!! could'nt wait to get home to post this beauty!! so excited left e-tool and gloves back at the site.Man! This was at least 15" down, ground is wet and hole kept filling with water. Kept getting a good signal so I kept on digging.Very faint signal at first almost did'nt even dig.

jay, that's an absolutely gorgeous 2 piece nc! wow, that's the stuff dreams are made of! how rare! could we get more pics to drool over? congratulations, great find of a lifetime. thanks, and hh,

hi jay, i wouldn't clean it at all for the time being, aside than rinsing it off with water. even then i'd be nervous! you might wanna get it in plastic to protect it. i'm sure all the other guys would agree on that. a discovery of this caliber has to be handled carefully! just wait 'til david from dixie sees it... he's gonna flip! david is a well recognized expert in this area, and won't lead you wrong. how much sleep you get last night, jay? prolly not much! man, now i really can't wait for the weekend to come. thanks for sharing, jay. it helps to keep the rest of us going. hh, and good luck.

Great find!!!! Its a once in a life time find!!!! Just remember that it was a dead mans buckel... I wouldn't clean it... Congrats on the great find!!!!

Well I saw this posted on another forum and was told it is very rare. I know absolutely nothing about them except what I have just read. If it is a once in a lifetime find CONGRATS in a big way!!! We all hit one of those finds if we keep trying and believing in what we are doing!!

Hope you enjoy it or the money it brings you!!

I am not smart about Civil War Relics, what does something like that go for? Everybody seems real excited.

GRAY GHOST sent me a heads up, but WOW, what a find! Congrats relics, an outstanding find. David@Dixie

Since the question of "to clean, or not to clean" came up, I can tell you this; over cleaning will not help the value of your NC 2-piece. I would consider only one of 2 methods.
1. Do nothing. Put buckle in a frame and leave as found. Won't hurt a thing and value is solid.
2. Soft tooth brush and distilled water. Clean the pieces lightly and pat dry with a paper towel.
Trying to remove copper oxidation (green patina) or bonded dirt will run the risk of over cleaning and many times it doesn't turn out like we want. I'd admire it for what it is; an outstanding piece of Confederate/American history.
Cheers,
David@Dixie
