Combined Mode Question

Aussie Okie

New member
Hi,
I'm using a modified version of the Andy Sabisch coin program in Combined mode.
My question is, I have no discrimination from Fe 24-35 as I am using the combined audio at Fe 24-35 to hear the grunt of the iron.
Is it better to 'hear' the iron (faster response on coins near iron) than to discriminate the iron out and just get a null?
In other words I am using the audio tone from combined mode instead of discrimination (Fe 24-35) in the hope it makes a faster response.
Coming from the etrac the response in iron 'nulling' was bad.

Thanks

I prefer to hear the iron instead of a null. Some places I hunt the iron can really put on a sound show and it can become mentally fatiguing. But I don't want to discriminate the iron because I feel I will discriminate a target in close proximity. The combined mode is better than TTF on the E trac. At least you don't have to look at the screen with every higher tone.

That's the beautiful think about the CTX, it's processer is lightning fast, so you dont have to listen to the iron.
I have done test after test with no discrimination, and with a ton of discrimination. What I have found is that
no matter what, if the coin is there, the 3030 will find it. I choose not to listen to the iron.

I'm with gate keeper on this one.

It is all personal preference. I prefer to let the rustiedt nails null, even when I relic hunt. When coinshooting in combine, I discriminate out Fe 24-35.

I like to hear the iron myself. I know if it were bad enough over long periods it would get tiring but that is the way I always used the explorers, in ferrous tones.

Just found out yesterday to use combined on the beach and what a difference it makes. One the beach I like hearing the iron, it makes me slow down and hope even if someone has detected the are in the

maybe the ctx will sniff our a ring in amongst the iron?

If I was convinced the nulling would never make me miss a target I may feel differently but at present I will continue to hear it I guess.

Dont dare me to post a video :detecting:

I think gatekeeper might be right because if you go slow through the iron with discrimination, the ctx litterally sucks the signal through the null. had this happen quite a few times ive noticed.

That is the entire problem. I Just have no faith that a good target will report through the null.

This is for you buddy :beers: Have faith in the CTX. it wont let you down.

I was using my Trashy Park program going back and forth from pattern 1-2.

Nice video. My name in lights. Actually I was cruising Youtube last night and I watched a few of your other videos. Sometimes with different names on the forums I don't know exactly who I am talking to. I will set up my CTX in a trashy park program. The other screen I will leave wide open. I'll find a target and check out both screens. I do have some areas where I would rather not listen to the iron. I have used the CTX on maybe a dozen hunts. I have been very pleased with the performance. I pulled silver on all but two of the hunts. I basically have been using wide open screens to keep the detector from nulling. My test and comparison will have to wait because we have 4 inches of snow on the ground. Thanks for the video.

Really like the combined mode audio.

I just use a few dots of disc on the common pulltab, breaks up the signal.
Anything else in the same tone range with a clean signal I dig.

Same with small foil. Just a few points of disc does the trick.

Thanks all and gatekeeper for the video. I took it on it's maiden voyage today and decided to remove the discrimination from the fe 24-35. So it was noisy, the site was a carpet of iron. If discriminating out the iron doesn't prevent signals coming through unlike the etrac, I am going to put it back in....save the hearing :)

Oh, here is what I found:
My first impressions of the CTX were that it was way easier to pick out signals with all the iron. This site has a carpet of iron.
I used combined audio and ferrous-coin separation with auto +3 sensitivity.
In the about 6 hour hunt I dug probably 5 nails, and 3 of those fooled me.

My very first target was a reeded edge disc the size of a half dollar, with a picture of a building, the other side looks like it was perhaps attached to something. I thought a fob watch but seems a bit smaller. If anyone has any ideas....

I then scored a neat lead toy bus, solid wheels, looks old, again any info appreciated.

I also got a 1903 IH :)

Lastly, I got an old cufflink, stamped H.W.K. Co.
I found the link part first then the top in the same hole.
Did some research and the company was founded in Rhode Island in 1906 until 1916.
So it's an oldie. Some of these are gold, I think this is not, but it's neat.

Keep in mind we have gone over this area many times, I thoughly covered the area where the IH and cufflink were found with the etrac.

I like to hear the iron too. Allows me to be final discriminator. Sometimes I will dig very iffy signals in iron on the chance that someone else missed it. Most of the time when I do that I end up empty handed but today I was rewarded with a silver washington on a very weak signal in iron..

Congrats on your finds!!

That IH is awesome!!

Awesome video I t totally agree it has iron see thru and seperation like non before. I do keep p2 open amd when I have a doubt I double check it and I have yet do anything different then when I use discrm.

Thanks for all the kind words. My intention with the video was to have guys think outside the box. This machine
is special and acts like no other.

Still waiting on my ctx to arrive, but what do you mean by a few dots of disc? Sorry but I am new to the idea of discrimination other than the null that the excal does with iron.
