Howdy--
I hope that everybody had a good Thanksgiving! I had to try to work off some of that pumkin pie - what better way than to go detecting? My hunting buddy and I went to a vacant lot near a swimming pool and found mostly memorial cents and I dug 1 weat -cent, a sterling ring and a silver charm with the Lord's Prayer in it. Getting tired of digging memorials, we decided to look for a better sight. We drove around looking for a lot that we hadn't hunted several times (there aren't many here hahah) and my buddy suggested that we hunt the lot next to an old church. We had hunted it 3 times in the past and had found weat-cents, buffalo nickles and one silver dime. We only had about an hour or 2 before dark and it was close by so that's where we went. I made a beeline for the area where I had previously had some luck. It had been overgrown but with the drought and prarie dog activity it was now clean of overgrowth. Using the V3i with the 6X10 coil and a modified Coin program , I got a solid 83-85 reading at 4" that had 3Khz dominant: a 1948-D quarter. About five inches from there I got an 88-90 signal at 4" and dug a 1940-S Walking Liberty Half. Re-checking the hole, another 84-85 signal that turned out to be a 1951-D quarter. To mak a long story short I ended up digging 3 silver dimes (1920-D, 1944-D and 1951-S) out of that expanding hole. The non-silver coins included a 1942 nickel and 3 weat-cents- the oldest a 1920-D. Coin spills sure are fun!!
