Coil Question on Explorer II

Thanks Steve
There is no one near me, I wish there was, I would be willing to drive a couple of hundred miles if there were.
You're right, it is an X-5, the 5 from looking at the coil upside down looks like an S:rolleyes:

All of my coils connect to a switch box, (switches between coil and probe) I'll disconnect the switch box and connect the coil directly to the unit, bypassing the switchbox. I hope this does the trick as I believe I could buy another switch box from sunray.

Yestereday when I did my testing, I was about 15 feet away from the electrical power lines, but this is the way it acts when there are no power line close by.

I bought the unit new about 10 years ago when I was working. I used the machine for about two months in Quick start mode for a couple of months and then my job put me on the road, where I got in another few weeks with the machine. This was new technology to me and I thought that it was my ignorance of the machine so I put it aside and bought a Garrett GTI 2500. After a short learning curve The 2500 was my go to machine.
In April of this year, being retired, I decided to learn and master my Explorer II, I bought the RNB re-chargeable Li-ion battery and Andy Sabischs book.
Now I believe it is not me, but a problem within the machine.

Thank you for your time in helping me sort this out.

Roy

Thanks you Steve
You may have found the problem!:please:
I took off the sunray probe and switch box, and installed the WOT, I went out side, the calliope is gone:thumbup:
I was amazed, only one tone per target! wow! I'll head out asap and drop a few coins under a plug, but hopes are high!!
Thanks again

Roy

It Works!!!!!!!!!!
Hooray:clapping:
I made a 2 inch plug 9 inches deep, and dropped the clad dime in the hole. I was able to manipulate the dime until it was in approximate center of the bottom of the hole. I tamped it down and pushed the dirt down in the hole. I had my WOT coil on so this is why I went for a greater depth...this was as deep as I go and still maintain the integrity of a solid plug.
I did a factory reset and tried in quick start mode....It lost threshold, but no sound.
I manipulated sensitivity.... not much better, nothing to write home about (so to speak)
I went to advanced...Deep on fast off. not as good
I put deep off fast off.. nope
I put fast on....I got a squeal... moved away... squeal again (its working)..No visual Id
I raised sensitivity to 32... far upper right jumping a little. Digital Id 08-29 not solid, but depth is showing about 10-11 inches. A dig-gable target for me any day!!!
I love it!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks to all who have responded and helped me explorer my Explorer.
A special thanks to sgoss66 (Steve) You have my nomination for Explorer troubleshooter extraordinaire!:cheekkiss:

Roy --

So glad to hear that you figured things out. An 08-29 is a good ID for a deep dime. The SunRay connector is the culprit! NOW you can begin to enjoy what should prove to be an excellent machine for you. As you noticed, manual sensitivity maxed out at 32 will give you great depth, but will also be more chattery and you will get more iron (nails and such) sort of "masquerading" as a good coin, when running your machine that hot. I'd suggest trying a bit lower sensitivity at first, maybe manual 26 or so (or even semi-auto at first; while semi-auto is not quite as deep, it is much more stable and thus will help with the learning curve).

Bottom line is that now you will be able to begin "catching on" to what the machine is telling you. Hitting that 9" deep, freshly-buried coin is pretty good. You will be able to hit them a bit deeper still, in similar (but un-disturbed) soil.

I'm glad I was able to help you out a bit. Perhaps a new part for your SunRay probe, and you'll be in business there, too!

Take care,

Steve

Glad you were able to get it figured out Roy. Way to go Steve! Joe

Thanks Surfman
Neat utube channel. I've only watched one of your videos so far, I enjoyed it, especially the little bottle and the seated quarter.

The 10X12 SEF coil is one of my favorites on the explorer. You might want to try that one.

I ordered one from Kelleyco this morning. Thanks Neil!

I sent my X-1 assembly back to Sun Ray this morning, Ralph is very pleasant to deal with.
