i am sure this show will be entertaining, however it's (d.o.a!)
unfortunately,BECAUSE THEY ARE DIGGING! this is NOT good
we do not need the exposure of digging in the ground! way it is!
just sayin'
Do not want to pass judgement to soon. If they respect the hobbie and do not destroy things in their recovery of their finds, it may turn out OK. If they act crazy and give the impression that the only thing they care about is what they find and entertaining people, then it could cast a bad light on us. Hoping for the best. One thing I do know, I'm going to try and watch to find out myself.
i hear ya,but you got more faith than me!
i don't trust it,and the public's general opinion of digging in public places
is a "deal breaker" in my view! why "expose" it?.gotta be discreet!
we can do WITHOUT the publicity! just sayin'
These guys are making us all look bad. They just find a signal and start digging like squirrels. Flinging dirt all over the place and not keeping it neat? wtf. smh. What a mess. I can't take my eyes off this trainwreck. ugh
And the way they dug was just crazy, no care what so ever ! I would not want to let them two guys in my back yard to dig.
The Directors of this show / program need to go back to the drawing board !
National Geo -- You need to take a step back here and re-plan this show / program. You might be better off finding other detectorists as well to make this more of a show than what it is.
An intro into Metal Detecting would have been a great starting program / show, it would have been better if they gave details of the metal detectors that can be purchased and how they are used etc.
A more down to earth avenue is needed, what I saw tonight was a total washout, it did not show us 'Real Detectorist' in a good light no matter how you cut it.
This show clearly didn't shine a very positive light on the hobby. Sorta makes us look like a bunch of squirrels running around digging holes looking for nuts. The general theme seemed to be directed towards answering two questions that the non-detecting public generally asks ... What ja find and what's it worth? There is far more to the hobby than just that. It would have been nice to see some of their finds handed over to the property owners or local museum. Especially the 1886 Indian head penny that they sold for 40 bucks! .... add greed to the list of negative perceptions.
It's all about ratings. This show was definitely geared towards the general public and NOT for metal detectorists and not with the best interest of metal detectorists in mind. Atleast they had permission and got "invited" to hunt some of the properties. My only hope is that the people who matter did not see this show and/ or did not take it seriously. I think Nat Geo could have had a little more consideration for those of us who do take this hobby somewhat seriously.
I agree that they could have gotten a little more "technical" about MDing and leaned more towards an educational theme. I mean this is NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC after all.
This show did a great job at watering down an awesome hobby and the bad thing is.... will I watch it again or choose not to give them what they want, which is ratings...
Someone explained it best earlier. It's like a trainwreck... you want to look away but find it difficult to do so LoL
Hey all, These guys are complete idiots in my opinion! All they seem to talk about is what there finds where worth. Also they dug holes like a couple of morons. Where did there terminology come from, toke, juice, rounds?? I never heard them expressions on any of the forums. I guess I'm not up on the detecting lingo. Please cancel this show before we all look like morons!!
It was the perfect show to view for any organization to shut down detecting. All they have to do is say " Here is exactly how and why the Pro's do it" They run around like idiots. They dig huge holes and ruin the grass. They sell all the items to the higest bidder. The next thing we'll see is more and more parks, cities and states closed to hunting. How could you blame them after watchiing this crap? Now anyone that has $80 will be going to Walmart to buy a detector and digging huge holes! All this to make the inflated $500 in finds a day as in the show. Sad - very sad.
What a joke, so much that my wife said if I acted like that she would shoot me. They must have been trying to find birds with metal in them as high off the ground as they were swinging the coils. I hope Garrett didn't sponsor these clowns as their business might plunge. But if they did they might want to get them to tape over the names on the machines. Time to go get the tokes and see the rounds while I get juice
