Celtic Carnyx

Draco

Well-known member

The Carnyx, ancient Celtic instrument of war.
It must have been impressive how they sounded in unison during the battles against the Romans and other tribes of old Europe.

Reconstruction of a Carnyx from some images of ancient coins and one found during an excavation. In the final minutes of the video you can hear how it sounds.

Here is a musical performance by a Spanish luthier named Abraham Cupeiro, from the Galicia area. Galaecia in ancient Rome.
Obviously we can't know what the music of that time was like, but it sounds... very good
