Cant get the wireless headphones to work???

Rick(ND)

Well-known member
I cant get the wireless to work and wonder if I am doing something wrong or have a problem.
I charged up the battery first on the module, turned on my CTX3030 and went to options and enabled the wireless. Turned on the module and held the one button down until the yellow light was on as instructed in the manual. Now I went down to connect and hilt select and waited for the yellow light to go out and switched to a blinking red and a audio alert. Now I hit the detect and it comes on the screen connecting which runs for a little while,l then comes up unable to connect. I tried different channels, tried the select button and reset it twice and always come up the same and will not connect.
Now the rest of the story as I ordered in a standard pack and what I got was the starter pack which didn't have the wireless module and when I called the dist they said they would send me the stuff to make it a standard pack, so could this be the problem as the starter pack don't have the receiver to pick up the wireless signals, or maybe I am not doing something right??
Any help will be appreciated. I have other questions or problems and will do one at a time.

Thanks for any help I can get (probably something simple I am over looking)

It took me a bit to get mine to connect. This earlier post might help.

PAIRING WIRELESS MODULE

please note when you are pairing the wireless module to the detector make sure you hold the holes of the module facing the detector and hit SELECT and then the link will be successful

I remember reading that post too, so I tried even laying the module right on the detector itself different directions with no luck at all. I tried holding the button in until it paired up, tried letting go of the button after it turned orange. It seems to pair up, but just wont link up with the detector as after a few minutes it comes up on the detector screen unsuccessful.
I just hope it is something I am over looking and not a problem and was hopping someone else had this same problem and can tell me what they did to correct it.
Maybe it was because I was doing this inside and will try it outside later today and see if that is it.

Hi Rick,

I had the same problem, Randy recommend to fully charge the wireless battery. So even though my wireless showed it was charged I let it charge longer, for some reason or another it bonded with the CTX and has been working since.

Give it time, eventually the wireless will kick in

Congrats with getting the CTX,
Paul (Ca)

Tried that too as I fully charged both the detector and the module just in case the batteries are weak. After the orange light goes out then it turns red and blinks which I don't know if that is normal or not. When the orange light goes off I get the tone from the module like I am suppose to, but when I hit detect or even the select button there is a message on the screen saying it is connecting and after about 30 seconds it shows it failed. Tried different channels and even reset it 3 different times and nothing seems to make a difference and starting to wonder if something is different between the starter and the standard pack with the receiver end of it as the module is sending out the signal, but the detector is not accepting the signal. I ordered the standard pack, but got a starter pack and when I inquired about it they send me the stuff that was to come in the standard pack.
I wonder if Randy knows anything about this as I am sure he has corresponded with Minelab quite a bit, maybe it is more than just the accessories the difference in the 2 packs.

I will keep trying and will recharge again to be on the safe side.

Just thought of something else as with the wireless turned on on the detector the book I beleive says the audio from the speaker and reg plug in headphones shuts off, but on mine it dont make any difference at all as the speaker in the detector is on if this is checked or not.

Thanks
Rick

Rick, this is a long shot. In the manual, it says that the WM 10 operates on a global license-free location of the radio spectrum. It may be possible that you have another device nearby operating at close to the same frequency. I once had an older 2.4Ghz cordless phone and whenever it was on, my computer's wifi card would lose connection and was unable to connect until the phone was turned off. I replaced that phone and all was okay again.

Perhaps you could try connecting the WM and CTX away from the house and any possible interference. Like I said, it's a long shot.

Rick,

I haven't been following each post concerning your problem but if you haven't tried pairing with different frequency settings you might want to experiment with that. Just be sure you are following the manuals instructions.

We have our open club hunt this weekend in a spot that should be free of any interference. The area I have been trying at has a cell phone signal booster and this could be the problem, like you say it may be a long shot, but it could do the trick too.

Tried it both ways to be sure and same results, but nice to hear other suggestion and to see if I had tried it yet..

Rick, I don't think it is a difference in packs as you can use more that one wireless module on a detector. The red lights blinking could be that the link between the mod and the detector is not solid. When I would reset my detector, it would lose the link that had been established in the past. To activate the wireless, I first turned on the detector, then turn on the wireless mod with the left pad. When the mod was turned on, I'd press and hold the pad on the right. Then I would go to the detector's menu item for Wireless, highlight it and press select. The next item is Wireless Enable.....highlight it and press select. Then drop down to Connect and press select. Use the right and left arrows to select a channel. Then, press select. The mod should then sync up with the detector. When it does, I use the pinpoint toggle to get me back to the main screen.
If it doesn't do it within a few seconds on a certain channnel, use the arrow pad to physically change channels and try Select again. If after going through all the channels, it still doesnt' connect, you might try resetting the module. There is a place on the front of it where you can reset it with a paper clip.

If that doesn't do it, let me know and we'll see if we can figure it out. HH Randy

Once wireless is enabled
and WM 10 is connected,
all audio is expected to
be generated by the WM
10 even if it is turned off.
Disable wireless to return
audio to the detector.

The WM 10 Pairing LED may blink
red occasionally when the WARM
appears to be working correctly.
This indicates a deterioration in
radio communications and is for
information only.

It is only necessary to perform
the connection procedure once.
After initial connection the
detector and WM 10 will connect
automatically.

had the same problem, went to the menu section and found the screen menu for blue tooth connection and changed the channel to 3 the problem it is that you may have a device with the same channel in use, Phone? wireless router or what ever, but it will work. If your still having problems call you dealer they will walk you through the issue.

I knew it was bound to happen one of these day as I been saying never had a problem with Minelab detectors and now I have one. My CTX seems to do a lot of chattering at times and impossible to ID with it as the number keep jumping around. Sensitivity, ground balance changing modes and even noise cancel make no difference what ever you try to do is the same. I even did a reset and still the same thing happens, but then all of a sudden it is gone and no sound other than when you go over a good target and feel it is working correctly and so stable then. When it happened while setting it up in my building I just figured it was sensitivity to something and when I went out to the local school thought it was just trashy, but took it to our annual open hunt in the middle of no where and it got bad at time and then it work like it should again. I figured it acted like a coil problem so I check my connections to see they were tight, which they were, but when I pushed in on the connector it ran great, when I let go it started to chatter again and very unstable and then if I push in on the connector it would be stable again and sometime stay that way for a while and start chattering again. When I pushed in on the connector it would quiet right down. The it quit working all together and when I wiggled the wire a bit it would work. so must be a bad wire in the cable end which could happen I guess.
Now on the wireless headphones I tried everything and still don't work and the red light on the module is always blinking like it is having problems getting the signal.
Think it is time to contact Mineab and see if they can send me another coil to try before I have to send it in, just wished my E-Trac coils would fit so I know if I have to send it in or not.

Have Minelab send you a new boxed unit and send that one back. Like anything mechanical there is always the possibility to get a bad one......and unfortunately it sounds like you got it. Really sucks but try to make sure you get a whole new unit.

It took me about a dozen times to get it Rick but finally it worked. I lowered the channel number to three from 13 and it fired right off. I would suggest trying the reset button on the WM 10 though.

I know this is rather elementary, but, have any of you tried different headphones? (they can be bad, too.)
If the bluetooth setup is anything like some other devices, you can actually be too close to the object you are trying to connect with, try backing up about 6 feet.
Changing channels did it for me, but, I still have to hit the connect button every time I use the WM10.....I thought that only had to be done the first time.

Just my 2 cents........

Just another case of a poorly thought out system by Minelab. I too have found trying to get the module to connect a pain. Why on earth would they come up with such a cumbersome system I don't know. For the cost of this thing (the wireless module) they should have just designed a real set of wireless headphones that connects easily (a la one of their competitors, once set up in the detector, from then on just press the button on the phones, connection made, done) and eliminates one of the real pains with wired headphones in the first place, broken wires because of strain/wire fatigue. I have already had two pairs of headphones suffer the broken wire problem with this thing. Because of the connect problem I now rarely use it and op for just plugging the phones directly into the detector. "Great job Minelab".

After you said that you also had problems with the wire causing your machine to act erratic when you don't push on it then it straightens out when pushed on, this may be the cause of the wireless to not connect properly, try holding it in while trying to pair the machine to the wireless module. I would still call minelab . hope this helps

Seems like some of us have simply went back to the regular h.p.'s---I know I have.-----This Minelab set up is not "wireless" anyway.----I purchased Ralphs (Sunray) Pro Golds with that new switch he put on them for the CTX and just plug them into the detector & have it over & done with.

I had a problem with my wm10 going in and out red light would start blinking fryed recharging battery and reconcting turned out to be a bad switch on my sunray pro gold head phones replaced it and no more problem
