Can't find nickels?

So far this year (spring 2012 to now) I have found over 120 nickels(all Jeffs). Last yr. from June to Nov. I found 99 nickels ( all Jeffs) I use the stock coin program and also Sabisch's coin program. I have noticed that some days out I get no nickels and other days out I get alot of nickels. Is it the ground conditions, moon phases? I don't know but believe me you'll find them with your Etrac. Anywhere close to 12-13 you will find them.

Hit a local park for the past 3 evenings. A total of about 6 hrs. Tonite was the first time I pulled any nickels(5 Jeffersons) out of the same area that I hunted the last two nights. I got a total of 33 cents(one wheatie), 5 nickels,38 clad dimes and 30 clad quarters and 1 junk ring.

I have a 1939 Canadian nickel (composition of 99% nickel). I air tested it with the Etrac and it did not like it one bit. TID all over the place, with a null half of the time.

nickel is ferrous I believe and that is why you get the null.....Old canadian nickels are almost pure nickel

The E-Trac is a killer Nickel machine - have dug many hundreds of them.

I personally look for a few things ...

Unlike other good targets -
I like to see a small target ID number bounce - ( only one or two numbers max.) usually run around in the FE - (12) to CO - ( 11 to 14) range when crossed from different directions.
And important - always look at your depth gauge - old Nickels are usually deeper then most pieces of can slaw and pop tops.
Also, listen for a nice clean breaking signal - the same quick on - off signal that other coins and good targets make.

I know everyone does what works best for them - but for me - if the target ID bounces to much - several numbers or more - I don't dig it.
If the CO numbers go below 10 or above 15 - I don't dig it.

Good luck!

Most nickels come in a solid 12-12(13), but I have hit some at 11-12, and 13-12(13)...Depends on the field and how much fertilizer has hit them...The blacker (or redder) they are the higher the numbers it seems to me...

HH,

Great advice here. I have only found one nickel since using the Etrac. Where are some of these park programs. I haven't gotten the X-change program to work for me yet. Have it on my computer but that's all I've managed. I have manually modified some patterns though.
