my car is black if that matters. Can I leave it in the car so I don't have to come home after work to get it?

I leave mine in my truck but i try to put in behind my seat or cover it up , Tesoros are pretty tough but i don't think you should leave them in direct sun light , just my opinion.

in the car i was wondering about the trunk, in the truck it would be behind the cab. I was wondering since it didn't have a lcd screen would it be OK?

Just can't bring myself to do it. I accidentally brought one to work-but I left the windows cracked and covered it from the sunlight.

I have my DeLeon in the trunk of the car almost all summer for past couple of summers. I do take it out when temps are going to be in 90's or higher. I have checked it many times after work and it is warm not hot. I have a black car. After work on way home I hit a few parks. Z

Go to your local fish market or grocery store (meat department). They usually get packed fish in long styro boxes. They are just the right size to fit a Tesoro detector in. It will help keep the unit from getting hot in your trunk.

A car doesn't get hot enough to hurt Tesoro electronics circuitry. Direct sunlight does bother LCD screens though, as liquid crystal operates best at 40 to 100 degrees. The film covering the LCD can get hot enough to separate and become wavy in direct sunlight. A trunk poses no problems I am aware of.

The epoxy filled coils can "soften" if left in a hot vehicle (cab or trunk) and if it gets warm enough the winds can move some what. Once cooled it rests, but your machine will never be the same again. You should use caution when storying your machines in hot vehicles.

I have a black car and we both know that they are really hot!!! I never have left a detector in that hot thing during the day. I have been known to pack my gear up at night for an early morning hunt, but that is as far as I go. I've always thought that precision electronics and heat are bad news. Maybe I'm overly protective.

Some electronics are better protected than others.

As you can imagine, if you spend $1,000 for an

industrial Schonstedt magnetic locator, it is as

rugged as they come.

But we as hobbiest would not appreciate the extra

cost.

For an industrial metal detector to be that tough, You Gotta Pay!!

Tesoro's will probably survive under lots of heat.

See if you can find the point at which the electronics fries..

That's waht we are talking about.

So we need a volunteer to find out just how much we can abuse

our machines before they fry.

Have you tried using a thermomiter?

Some places it's not so bad.

Here in Arkie Land the car will reach 170 degreese in minutes.

I won't do that to my machines.

HH,

I've heard a black car can go over 130% if in the direct sun...

That can't be good for anything!

Soft case & a locker in the office????

Thank goodness the guys at tesoro are very forgiving. I went to Six Flags in Ga. June or July? Had a red dodge durango. Ex-wife would not leave the windows cracked. Baked a nice Tesoro Umax Bandito. So I divorced her. lol. I never leave one in the car anymore they mean too much to me. Some of the units I have are old and no longer made. Not gonna risk it.

I have done it if I am planning a hunt that day. Park in shade if I can and leave the windows cracked. I would not leave it in the car for any longer than that, Beale.

that was my thought to leave it in the car with the windows cracked. I live and work in a safe area. Although i wouldn't leave it any where with the windows all the way down. I would feel safe with it at work and the windows 1 -2 inches down

I would not do that. The heat can cause too many probelms and it can get awfully hot in a car sitting in direct sunlight in a parking lot. Is there not anywhere you can store it at your work ?

I was surveying in a hospital parking lot in Arkie Land.

The Temp was 110+ degrees.

I could hear windshilds poping around us.

Almost every car that did not have their windshield

cracked had a broken windshield.

A mad person.....went to security and suggested

that we had been breaking windshields in the parking lot.

I talked to security and explained what was happening.

I'll never put Speedy through that.

Happy Hunting,
