Camden SC Civil War Pass Through But Mostly Near Revolutionary War Battlefield

Have obtained a 125 acre permission What now is mostly 5-6 year old pines. On Historical aerials maps There was a pretty big farm in the 1950s appeared abandoned then and all buildings gone by the 60s. Stoked about the old farm but the landowner says Battle of Hanging Rock was about mile and a half away. Anyone know how spread out the battle was and is there chance artillery or musketballs travel that far. Also think Shermans March came up near the farm leaving Camden. Thanks for any info

I would be looking for information as to which direction both sides traveled to and from the battlefield. Any farm raids nearby. Previous to and after the battle encampments and staging areas.
Anywhere within a few miles would be fair game.
Depending on the weather and season.
Even if you don't find documented information.
You could still be in for surprising finds.
That much land will be a genuine effort.
Maybe find something here on paths,trails coming and going. Research is key.

Best of Luck to you. As Odanscoils pointed out, the armies camps were always pretty massive, being spread out. Envision the size of a camp and the area that it would take to accommodate 50,000 troops or better. Keep us posted.

Actually found Shermans notes or writings online that they camped several days Hanging Rock due to Flooding rains. Hopefully they did spread out the permissions northern border is on hanging rock creek. Probably be December before able to hunt it.
