:cam:Much sand movement here in CT.........many targets but no gold:cam:

Bobbie

New member
J-man and I headed out to catch the low tide at one beach.......You could see much sand movement there with many targets to dig, sinkers, fishing lures and an array of junk....Even found a small boat prop. Got some clad too. Had lunch and headed off to another beach to follow the tide in....many pull tabs and more junk. Finally hit high tide and left for another beach to have dinner....New England favorite........and checked out the beach in the dark. Found a huge 5' deep cut in one area that might be productive of some very old stuff.

I know what beaches you were at but where was that seafood from? :)

If we don't get too much snow tomorrow Bobbie(plowing) I hope to hit the beach I got the platinum on a few days ago... Give me a call when you want to hook up and I'll let you play with my PI :)

That's right Max.... I'll let you discrim guys and gals clean up the shallow stuff and I'll follow scooping up the deep gold and platinum

No gold in the nut, but targets have some merit, great density there! Ya'll are gittin' down to it! Let us know how the cut produces, looks great! The meal looks righteous from where I sit, except for the hotdog lookin' thing, kinda outa place in a seafood buffet. I'm sure it was all good though!

Max...

All kidding aside a detector is only as good as the person behind it and a person running a discriminating machine has no advantage over me running my PI... In fact I believe I have the advantage over a discriminating machine. Your machine is not infallible to trash I see plenty of trash posted by discriminating detectors, last time I looked bottle caps were trash and they are iron... I am am one with my PI and I don't dig any big iron I know what it sounds like. I rarely find bobbiepins because I know what they sound like.

Maybe I'm being a little brash since I only have 19 months doing this water hobby but I feel I have the right with close to 200 rings. :) I've worked hard to learn my detector and I have to be honest as far as I am concerned I have the best detector going. I have the deepest detector as far as I am concerned as well and the only other detector that I would consider buying is the Aquasearch.

My detector was a $600.00 investment that I did not have to modify in anyway to use... I'll gladly dig my extra 10 holes because I know I'm getting deeper.

No disrespect meant but you're fooling yourself if you think your detector has an advantage over mine in the saltwater. You have it over me in the dry sand and freshwater but that is it and I rarely hunt those area's.

I'm heading out the door to do some plowing so maybe I can order my Aquasearch afterwards. :)

I have detected for over 30 years - I have tried a bunch of different machines - and hunt with guys with a bunch of other machines - the PI is one of the deepest right off the shelf. You and I both have hit beaches hammered by minelabs and other discrim. machines only to find gold beyond their reach and gold under trash that they passed because trash masked it. It is also true that you can tell a large object that would not possibly be a ring compared to other machines - I can tell you that with my CZ20 I can rarely tell in all metal the size of an object until I scoop a few times if it is a large piece of iron down a foot or more. I will always dig the bobby pin hits though - have gotten small chains and small gold earings that have sounded the same - in fact one local freshwater spot I hit every year in the summer - that is mostly all I find there is hairpins and gold earings - guys with discrim. miss them there. I average about 10 gold earings a year at that spot alone and that beach gets hammered. The person beyond the machine is the X factor though - all these machines are made to find metal. If I took your PI away and gave you a minelab - a fisher - a garrett,or a tesoro - you would still go out and find gold rings if you put the time in that you do - would you miss a few of those really deep ones - maybe - would you miss some that are with or next to junk - maybe. I can also tell you that over the years that I have found good targets with my XLT that read as bad - I have found good targets with CZ20 that read as bad and I have hunted with others that have had a few of the same experiences with discrim machines. It may be 1 in 1000 or 1 in 10,000 - but it does happen.

you will see that we actually get more good than bad targets - that s beacuse we do pick up our trash and try and clean an area out - if you hit a beach on a regular basis - it makes sense to just run all metal and take everything out - if you do that you will find that you will find less and less trash and your good to bad will increase - I can take you to a few spots that all you wil find for trash - is what was dropped that day. If you saw my post from my Fla. finds at the TreasureDepot - I used my CZ20 down there and ended up running in all metal down there. I found over 700 coins 50 pieces of jewelry plus sinkers, keys and other misc that I would classify as a good target and maybe found 100 pieces of junk. If everyone picked up their junk - you'd be surprised at how much junk you would not find running in all metal.

Throughout New England to find hot dogs (split and grilled with butter) and fried clams on the same menu since they are roadside favorites. Most fancy resturaunts (unless they specialize in fried seafood) do not have fried clams on the menu. The clams are the soft shell variety that are found mainly in the cold New England waters.......and soooooooo good.

u both want deep - forget the aquasearch - mr gold told me tooo much black sand for my beach, probably the same for yours up north

i had one of mr. eric foster's S/S Aquarsearchs and i can tell u - if u want deep - that is the ticket - i know u have seen the pic of the small alum. pole i dug at 22 scoops deep - well that baby would dig sunglasses at 15 to 17 scoops deep all the time - those other pop corn PI around will not even get close to the deepth of the S/S

so how long does it take to dig a hole 17 scoops???? - i am talking wasist deep water................wonderful sounding target, not like a bobby pin..............july and aug.......2004 - gold and silver too.

i got W E A K AGAIN IN 2005 and bought a new Surf PI Pro, like u guys use..................I kept her 2 days...............Va Beach is toooo trashy...........when i had the eric foster model, i had to carry extra pouch just for all the wire and hooks and all the small metal i would find..................i love PI's.................i want one so BAD it hurts and my shoulder already hurts from the new WOT i have. now this WOT will find small small stuff on the beach way over 18" to 24" = 4 and 5 scoop deep holes................THAT IS FAR ENOUGHT FOR ME.

the two machines i mentioned above are the only two i have used other than a sovereign or excal and expII................i just love the tones.
using one in all-metals or pin point seems to defeat the purpose behind the concept of the machine.............we are talking top of the line detectors made by maybe the best metal/gold detecting company in the world Minelab...............how could anywone go wrong.

I am getting ready to by a new waterproof machine for the up coming season......since i sold my excal.............i keep hearing all about this new Discriming/PI = I can not think of it name right now and then a rumor about White's coming out with the same..............DO I WANT ONE..............YES............am i going to buy one.......N O.

IF I HAD THE KNOWLEDGE AND KNOW HOW, I WOULD BY ANOTHER NEW GT AND BUILD A NICE NEW WATERPROOF BOX LIKE LONG ISLAND BOB JUST POSTED AND BE HAPPY FOREVER, that all equals out to a new Excal. for 2007 - I GUESS.

GOLD SCAN 5 - it has descrimination and maybe 3 to 4ft. depth on the sand - but not waterproof if u want deepth this is the ticket.

cost is few more meager bucks than some would like to spend

The new rumored PI from Whites from what I understand is not waterproof so I would have little interest in it since I do most of my hunting in the water.

The platinum ring I found was not in the water... it was in the wet sand and was just a break in the threshold because it was so deep.

I know my PI inside and out and Casper is right on when he says the places we hunt will be cleaner.. Sure I dig up bobbie pins now and then but what if it was part of a gold bracelet? Then I would miss it if I didn't dig it. I'm no spring chicken I am 50 years old but with all the competition out their today I want the deepest detector I can have and as far as I am concerned the PI is it.

The PI PRO has 1 tone but I can for the most part tell what I am going to dig.

know of at least one more in RI.

then u will have the business and u will be truly amazed at the deepth.

it was the nicest detector i have ever owned............all hand made, great qualility coil and all hardware...........i hated the day i sold it..............i sold it to tom in florida and he sold it to judy up your way...............still in your area somewhere.

Mr Bill told me last week when i got the urge again, that he should have some in by middle of march.

max

I plan on down the road of life of getting one, right now there is a wait of a couple months and I'm pretty happy with my PI right now.
