CALLING ALL EXCAL OWNERS!!!:starwars:

For those of you who own the BEST underwater metal detector as well as one of the most plagued with flaws detectors - take note.
I have just finished sending a corporate e-mail to MineLab explaining the pros and cons of their Excalibur product and suggesting to them that they read the posts on this forum and others and make changes to their product in order to keep their customer base.

A lot of us love our Excal's and at the same time we hate the short comings of what could be a much better machine with just a little attention to detail and by listening to the feedback from the end users. US!!!

In fairness to MineLab, we as consumers have a responsibility to inform a manufacturer of flaws in their product or be prepared to settle for substandard goods. This is basic capitalism folks.

So I say let's give Minelab a chance and take the time to left click on their banner and send them a note to make them aware of our concerns. It doesn't have to be a rant, just a reasonable expression of your concerns as a consumer who put over $1,000 of hard cash on the table and expect a little better than they are getting in return.

It's like the old saying goes " If you didn't Vote, You gave up the Right to Beatch!

It's up to you,

BDA:cool:

Just left click the MineLab banner and follow the post to consumer products, then click contact us, it's that easy.

I have been down this road before but enough time has elapsed they might have some new ears to listen. I sent several letters as well as made a bunch of calls when I first got my Excal. I never received a reply on any letter but talked to seemingly nice people on the phone.

As always it is up to the little guy to make the difference, typically without praise or recognition. Get enough little guys together and even the big wigs eventually have to sit up and take notice.
I like this hobby and don't see why we should settle for less. I sure don't want to revert to using a sheetmetal box like back in the 70's.

with ten nickle metal batteries. He removed the expired batteries and was able to fit them in the MineLab pod. He insterted a wood dowel in the center, with the 5 batteries stacked on top of 5 more.
If I had an Excal, I would build one.
Today's nicket metal batteries are a lot more powerful then when he built his and as I recall, he could hunt all day long with his.

I love the electonics in the Minelabs, and would love to own an
excal, but have been hesitant because of the weakness of some of the units structural components. I think they had better
watch out for the new Fisher/First Texas company,as they are
suppossed to introduce a new line in 2007. There may be a new
water unit in there, which could give minelab some new
competition. This might get them moving in the right direction.
Let's hope Fisher gets a killer new unit, as this will make
change necessary,as they have the market sewed up now that the
CZ20 is out of production. We'll have to wait and see.Good luck
and HH Joe

Exactly my point in my message to MineLab, Joe. You are 100% on the money. If MineLab won't fix their mousetrap, then somebody else will build a better one and we will beat a path to their door.

Cheers,

That's the stuff Coastwise.
It's easy to bitch about a problem, just takes a little more doin to actually fix the problem.
Good on Ya!

That is all to true. I would be purchasing another detector right now if some of the old issues with Minelabs were corrected.

For your info. I have sent my gripe list to them recently in hope of getting a response.

they don't have to and never did!!!! they have the hottest technology in the biz and for them it is cheaper to go on the cheap in production....and do the repair station revolving door than spend the big bucks to make a better made product. They know darn well that we Minlab users are a dedicated bunch and that a repair from time to time....although frustrating.....is not a problem and that 95% percent of us will gladly do it....because of our love affair with Minelab results out in the field. So....this grass roots effort though well intentioned, is in my opinion a futile one....verrry simply put....they ain't gonna change the way they do things.....JMHO and Happy Hunting ya all....Brian

....has read these threads before. and I have been here going on say...almost 8-10 years now. In my opinion it is just a Collosal waste of time and effort. to bring this up again....don't get me wrong....I admire your resolve sir.....but it has all been attempted before and never went anywhere....trust me...and you folks that have been here as long as I, know what I am talking about. Me?.....I'm gonna take my flawed imperfect original reconditioned (1994) Minelab excalibur to the beach and find some more gold....and if It needs a repair....i'll go get it done.....in fact I'll pay for the repair with some of that "Mad melt value cash" that I got from some of that scrap gold that I sold last week....ahh....life is good....Happy hunting and go dig some of that gold for yourselves folks....HH....Brian

Some days I get lucky and actually slay a dragon or two while I'm tilting at those windmills.
If what you say about MineLab's corporate mentality is true then I can only say that it reminds me of GM, Ford and Chrysler's position back in the 60's and 70's before the Japanese imports took a big bite out of their market share. The Japanese automakers were able to grab so much market share because the Americain automakers grew complacent and stopped listening to their customer base. Consumers walked across the road to the competition and most never came back.
So while you may be right and this is only a futile exercise I hope that you are wrong for everyones benefit.

Kindest Regards,

BDA:cool:

.....The Japanese developed a better Mousetrap (performance/fuel economy) so to speak and left the American car makers eating their dust. Minelab has the best technology on the market and crappy/cheap engineered components. Fisher makes a quality built machine....but overall can't measure up to Minelab's technology....and in the metal detector game it's the machine that goes deeper.....is more sensitive....and handles ground minerals better that cuts the mustard.....in a nutshell....Minelab has all that.....and the majority of the public so far is willing to overlook the construction/ergonomics for better performance. Can another company out there match that?? If so....I would buy it tommorrow....so far....there haven't been any takers.....Bda....hate to say it my friend....but i'm afraid yer pissin into a hurricane on this one....JMHO.....Brian :rage:

Anytime a void in the market becomes large enough to make entry into that market profitable, someone will recognize and sieze that opportunity. Maybe not today and maybe not tomorrow but eventually somebody will and as you stated in your last post, you would buy their product.
As for pissin into a hurricane, tropical storm maybe but not even a class 1 in my opinion. David slew Goliath and Don Quixote knocked down several windmills.

Happy hunting this weekend,

BDA:cool:

PS In the time we spent debating this you could have sent a message to MineLab and if nothing changed after that you could have sent me a post to say "I TOLD YOU SO"
