Buying new is best for a Tesoro...

Well, if it got down to only $50.00 then I would most likely buy new, but $50.00 isn't the case. Take the case for a new Tejon!
I got two of them for the price of one new one!

if one were to buy new, they *might* be able to keep the lights on a bit longer at Tesoro....
Well, the only problem I have with buying any detector NEW is who is going to keep my lights on if I upchuck $700.00 for a new detector? I lost my job last May, after 35 years of working for the same place they just shut it down! So, now I get $1,300 a month semi-retirement plus any odd job I can get.
One thing that may help Tesoro to keep their lights on is them charging small fees for work done out of warranty, the people that keep sending in their gotten used detector twice a year for a free tune up cost the company a lot of dollars in revenue.

I also have bought used. Never had any trouble with any of them. If someone buys a new one that has something wrong, they will send it back in to be fixed. Now it is good. They use it for a few years. Maybe they want to up grade. Will sell it on here. Nothing wrong with it. You buy it. You have a detector that has been redone. It could last you for many years with out no trouble. Say some day it acts funny. You send it in. For $50.00 they will fix it back up like new again. Might last you a life time. Most people on this forum and some of the others are good people. I dont think they will tell you it is great and it turns out to be a lemon. They will let you know something is wrong with it. Just my thought on used detectors... KEN

I have changed my mind on needing to buy new for a warranty and agree after reading all these posts ......i now feel much better about buying my used Vaquero with no warranty. Fabulous Machine

I bought one used and two new. On one of the new ones I sent the warranty card in, on the other I just plain old forgot. I'm not really worried about the warranties, if one of them ever haves a problem, I will gladly pay the service fee to get it back good as new.

My preference, if the savings was only $50 I would go new. At about $100 difference I would start to consider going used. From what I have read on other brand forums, the big US manufacturers all fix detectors that are 10+ years old. In this day of disposable consumer goods, I find that outstanding!
