Buying new detector

I have a x-terra 70 and really like it , it is very light . It has 1,2,3,4,or 28 tones i like the four tones the best. I have a 6inch dd coil that is great in the trash. My friend has an xlt and he like it , I have to swing slower . They both are very good detectors , the 70 is probably a little easier to use though.

Would like to thank everyone for your help. Metal detecting has been an enjoyable way to get some exercise and really helps lower back pain. And usually find a few coins not up to a $1,000.00 yet shucks not even up to $100.00 yet but still a lot of fun. Whichever machine I end up getting it will have a Sun Ray pin pointer, probably their headphones too, a small coil and quality digging tool. What I've gotten by with so far has been alright but better equipment should make it more fun and more efficient. Thanks again everyone and hope you all have a nice Christmas season! Glenn in IA.

I have 3 MD's that come to mind. They are great for the beach and everything else. DFX, E-trac and the V3. I think the DFX would be the ezest for you. The V3 is like the DFX they will bought cancle out salt wet or dry no prob. I here the E-trac will do well on the beach also. So good luck

If you are considering the Xterra series at all don't count out the 505. I run a 705 and it is fairly light (under 3 lbs + or -).

Stick to a name brand and stay away from the chinese machines. I also have a Bounty Hunter LandStar and It does not handle the varing soil conditions that are present here in eastern Washington State. My BH was mfg'd in China and assembled in the USA... Made in China

Minelab, Garrett, Fisher, Whites, Tesoro and I am sure I am missing some one there. I would stere clear of fixed ground balance machines because you may travel to areas with difficult soils (?) as you near Part Time work or Retirement. Just a thought.

Good Luck and Enjoy
Jeff

Jeff, I couldn't agree with you more about things made in China. Part of our business is sharpening knives and scissors. In thousands of items that people have wanted sharpened that were made in China or Pakistan I have yet to see one knife or pair of scissors that was worth sharpening. I certainly wouldn't be interested in a Chinese metal detector. An interesting note, when I was a kid stuff made in Japan was considered junk but we sharpen some scissors made in Japan that cost 500.00 and they are very high quality. I'll probably be getting a Minelab or Whites. Thanks, HH, Glenn
