Im not lobbying for find of the year by no means here as I’m sure the majority of you find these buttons very commonly and are encyclopedias in regards to information about them.
I’m posting for guys/gals like me that just don’t find them that often in our areas or on our sites. I have found it useful to search for keywords on the forum in regards to relics that others have posted about in order to help identify or get a date range. So here is some information I found about mine after researching last night. Hopefully someone will find it useful someday!
Here is the button that ignited my researching motor. I posted recently about the site I’ve been working and included a photograph of the original owner. The button is a brass flatly with a fair amount of gilt left on it. The back mark, (what is still intelligible), reads Benedict & Coe/Waterbury.
From the research I did, the button date range is fairly narrow falling between the years 1829-1834.
A couple of the photographs detail some information about the company as well as depicting the owners of the company at the time of this buttons manufacture.
Hopefully this is helpful and thank you for looking!
Go save some history.
