Never expected to find one of these in Missouri. We've found cavalry, artillery, general service, even a dragoon but never thought to have a naval button on the list.

During the Civil War, some Ship Captains were very fond of their stashes of Tennessee Whiskey when in port in Louisiana while on shore leave. When shore leave was over, instead of heading back out into the Gulf of Mexico, rounding the tip of Florida and heading to the Carolinas they, in their Whiskey induced condition, headed straight up the Mississippi River and wrecked their ships into the shores of Missouri. The button you found was probably lost in a scuffle while arguing the price of Whiskey there in Missouri.
Great Find! 👍

You mentioned "Dragoons". See if you can find it's history. They were pretty much documented. One of my nephews found one and on searching California Indian Wars we were able to pinpoint the day it was lost.
