Brand new Legend

A brand NEW legend still ships with 1.07 ?
Im surprised.
I was talking to someone on Facebook just a couple days ago that purchased a new Legend that was 1.04 version so you just never know which version you will receive when ordering on line, a dealer like that obviously is not moving them very quick

I've been using it for a little while and was just wondering if anybody had suggestions for relic hunting. That would be civil war activity and old house sites. Mostly civil war though.
what type of detecting are you doing Terry and what type of ground are you on

The ground is pretty good, not much mineralzation. I have found relics to pre-civil war, I found a trade axe my oldest find, civil war, found a T. E. Miller cavalry button, early 1900's college finds, to modern trash. It's a hay pasture now but was wooded at one time. It seems to have layers of history.

Personally I would run in field mode and if the ground is dry I would run in M2 if the ground has moisture in it I would switch to M3 I have been running this way and have found the M3 smooths every thing out, I also would change the first tone break to 8 or 9 instead of 10 with the tone break at 8 or 9 it will allow some small gold chains to come out as well as some other things, but these settings are just what I would do and may not be the best for your situation I would also run in A (all Metal) or G (ground off), the other thing I always do is to perform at the vary least a auto ground balance which there are some that advocate running a zero ground balance, personally I do not agree with the zero ground balance but again that is just me being set in the ways I was taught to detect, if you do decide to do a auto ground balance set the Legend to A (All Metal) in the mode you are going to run in and sensitivity at max and then do the auto ground balance, do this over a piece of ground that you know is void of any and all metal objects because you can balance out good targets, also do this before you do anything else

to do a ground balance before anything else set legend to A (all metal) sensitivity at max, then check area with the Legend before you do the ground balance to check for metal objects only after you have done this then do the Ground Balance, when you do a proper ground balance all you are doing is eliminating ground noise, and giving a detector the best odds of seeing good targets there are no adverse affects when performing a ground balance and it could even give the Legend more or better depth.

to add to this further I would drop the IF to 5 and ST at what ever is factory settings which I believe is 3 the audio gain I would set to 1 or 2 so it helps to bring a louder response from deeper targets if you set the AG to high of a setting everything will sound like it is on the surface and for me it made it harder to pin point targets

hope this helps

one last thing if you do move the tone break to 8 or 9 you will also need to notch back in 8,9 and 10 because those TIDs are notched out from the factory and just because you set your tone break to 8 or 9 does not mean those TIDs are notched back in they are not or will not be you have to physically go into notching procedure to notch them back in or notch them out

I have a friend that lives in Texas he is in the Pan handle so not sure how far he is from you, he also is swinging a Legend and having great success with the Legend I will see if it is ok to give you his number so you can pick his brain on settings he uses if you would like he is a cantankerous old fart but a very nice person he goes by Nickledigger on a different forum, I do not know what his settings are but I do know from talking to him he does not have the mineralization that I deal with he also says he never ground balances his Legend or any other detector that he uses because he does not have high mineralization where he is

just let me know and I will put you in touch with him

Thanks for the advice, it will come in handy for sure. I would like to get in touch with your friend. He lives many miles away form me but I'm sure he can relate to my situation.

I do know he does a lot of traveling across Texas, because of the business he is in, which I will let him tell you what that is

Sounds good.

Advice for anyone buying a brand new legend from a dealer , you must tell him that you want the lastest software update on your machine. Otherwise your buying "old stock".

Just got the Legend and looking forward to using it. I am somewhat daunted by the, what seems to be, a complicated machine. Will appreciate any advice or words of comfort. LOL
Its not complicated, just unknown. (you want complicated try a V3i)

Perfect.
Its all what you are used to.
For some at first driving a car is complicated. I know,i was a driving instructor for some years.
Some adults in their 30’s 40’s 50’s 60’s who never were on the driver side would be sweating, pissing, craping their pants so overwhelmed would want to drive right through a red light.”what light, where?” They would say.

Turn it on and go! If you don't like two tone, change it to what you do like. It is as complicated as you make it or, conversely, as simple as you make it. If you have a hunch something will make it better, change it. If it doesn't, change it back. Any of the stock settings are excellent for what they are for, park for park hunting, field for relics, beach for beach, and gold for gold.

Exactly. Ive said that before and some will argue why get a legend if you want simple?
Well for the price its a very customizable detector and not everyone has the same exact preferences in features and operation. As far as i know nobody make’s custom detectors all the way down to the circuitry. Maybe one day, would be nice.
