Brand new Legend

Just got the Legend and looking forward to using it. I am somewhat daunted by the, what seems to be, a complicated machine. Will appreciate any advice or words of comfort. LOL

Don’t think and worry about all the features available as it can be overwhelming. Just use it as a turn on and go detector as it can be used that way and as you get used to it start playing with and adjusting one thing at a time and eventually add the features you want. You don’t have to use them all

Exactly! I’ve had mine since May and just beginning to understand what makes her purr. Been finding a lot of stuff other detector(ists) have missed. Read the manual several times, then it becomes a bit easier to understand!

Read the manual more than once. I would recommend laying coins, pull tabs, etc. on the ground or floor and practice to see how they sound. Then turn it on and detect. If you don't like something about it, change it. For instance, if you want more than two tones, you can change it. If you have read the manual, you will know how. If you are planning ahead on what you want to change, sit down with the manual and detector and try it out. That way you will know how to change it back if you need to.

as others have stated the Legend is a very good detector, that can seem over whelming at first but it really is not as complicated as it seems

I highly recommend setting down in a easy chair with the Legend and the manual and go page by page in the manual and play with each button on the Legend to get a feel for what each button does do, do this a few times and it will become etched in your memory
also if you do happen to change something it is very simple to revert back to factory defaults with a couple clicks of a button,

Start out with the factory default setting in the beginning, the factory defaults are there for a reason, and are very capable of finding stuff , after a while of detecting in the default settings then start playing with changing things,

the other thing I recommend is this depending on which version firmware your Legend came with personally I would update it to the Latest Version which is 1.09 also go to Nokta/Macro site and download the current Manual which will be for the the 1.09 version most likely yours came with the 1.05 or maybe even 1.07 and possibly 1.04 depending on how quickly the place that sold you your Legend moved the Legends

here is all the download links

ONCE YOUR DEVICE HAS BEEN UPDATED, PLEASE REVERT BACK TO FACTORY DEFAULTS!

Download: The Legend Update Tool v1.6 (Windows) Includes System Software V1.09 - V1.07 - V1.05
Download: The Legend Update Tool v1.6 (macOS) Includes System Software V1.09 - V1.07 - V1.05

Please note the bold text above this the part that states ONCE YOUR DEVICE HAS BEEN UPDATED, PLEASE REVERT BACK TO FACTORY DEFAULTS (THAT IS CRITTICAL TO DO) THE NEW MANUAL TELLS YOU HOW TO DO IT

IF you need help to do this or do not understand how to do this do not hesitate to ask for help as many do not understand what the manual is telling them to do.

Download: Threshold Volume Update Tool (Windows)

You made a good choice in the Legend so enjoy its capabilities and do not let it over whelm you

And welcome to the LEGEND LEGIONS LOL

Just to add i would before using it like others have said, play with it while reading the manual and set up just the basics like volume, backlight, clock etc
That will give you a feel of navigating through the menus and you can always hit the power/settings button to go back to the menu screen.
Using it as a turn on and go I would just get used to buttons like sensitivity, volume and probably a good one would be the frequency shift so you can eliminate any emi while learning which could confuse things and if needed ground balance. Not sure what your soil is like

It came with v 1.07. to go to v 1.09 do i first need to update v 1.08 or can I skip v1.08 and go directly to v 1.09?

The v1.09 update will just update it from whatever version you have to 1.09
I actually liked v1.07 nothing wrong at all with it if you are not into added content and fine tuning.
As a simple turn on and go you can use it just fine with 1.07, I upgraded to 1.09 just because of all the hype not that it does anything different for the way i use it.
More seasoned users might disagree but that again depends on how much you like to fine tune everything.
Until you are really into and really understand how everything works 1.07 will find you just as much as 1.09
If you are just starting to learn how to drive a Lamborghini isn’t going to make you a better driver then a ford mustang.
Hope this helps

I think you are going to find that the SMF & other features of the Legend will revitalize sites that you have hunted before, especially if the ground has higher mineralization.

There is no 1.08 any longer when they put out 1.08 it had issues so Nokta/Macro quickly took 1.08 down and came back with 1.09, 1.07 version was ok for me but 1.09 is way better

I have to disagree with some of what you said the 1.09 is when they added the adjustable iron bias well 1.08 was, there are a few other things that was added with the 1.08 also like a iron particle meter and some other things, you are correct in if you do not want to detect and adjust things then 1.07 is ok, if you want to turn that mustang into a Ferrari then why not do the updates

you may be surprised just how much more you might find by playing with those added features that have been added, if someone didn't want to have to fiddle with adjustments then they should have just purchased a simplex plus or worse yet a AT Pro, but why not utilize all the added features that have been given to us in the Legend
just my 2 cents

Everyone has different preferences in what they want out of a detector. Just because John Doe likes and wants certain things doesn’t mean i have to.
I was just simply trying to say for purposes of learning how to use the legend v1.07 was fine and there wasn’t any issues that required an update to work properly. Is v1.09 more advanced and better yes but for someone who said was overwhelmed by all the features as is nothing wrong with starting with 1.07 then upgrading jmo.
I didn’t necessarily need all the adjustments the legend offers and for some its still not enough.
But i did want a lightweight waterproof smf/vlf detector with manual/ auto ground balance, BT headphones and park, fied and beach modes.
The legend checked all those boxes and so does the Nox 800.
Maybe i made a calculated mistake and missed those things available in the simplex or at pro or others.
I could have saved even more money.
But with the new price not much

Probably in stock somewhere for awhile but now that the cats been let out of the bag its getting harder to find other than via the internet…..

I've been using it for a little while and was just wondering if anybody had suggestions for relic hunting. That would be civil war activity and old house sites. Mostly civil war though.

I would assume you have to go deep and pick up all types of metal so my guess would be to hunt in A, All metal and try the lower frequencies like 4, and 10 khz.
That would be my approach but maybe someone else would do it differently.
