Brand loyalty?

I know what your talking about. I wanted very much to buy a 1350 to go along with my 250's. I swung one for about 20 minutes and even though I really liked the audio it didn't fit my arm very well. I'm 6 ft and 215 pounds and my arm just flopped around in the arm cuff. I would have really liked a way to turn off the sizing feature. Plus it was a little heavy. If Garrett makes the 1350 on the Ace platform I will buy one - maybe two!

That is true about the 100 hours if your a newbie. But after using several detectors for a few years I can tell in about 4 hours if me and the detector is going to get along. It won't get 4 hours if it doesn't feel good on my arm. I have picked up detectors and the ergonomics are just not right for me. This takes me about 1 minute. I have sat in the seat of new cars and can tell pretty quick if the seat fits my butt. If it doesn't I'll get out and try another. I do the same with baseball gloves. I'll slip one one and it either feels right or it doesn't. If it does feel right then I'll spend the time to break it in.

Khouse,I can usually tell in a couple of hours if a detector is going to work out or not.My strategy is to only have three units at any given time and convert excess units into cash to support my metal detecting habit. If I see a good deal on a unit I'll pick it up to upgrade my hunting tools. And if the new metal detector isn't quite what I was hoping for it goes back on the auction block. No brand or detector loyalty here if it doesn't work for me it goes up for sale and replaced.

I am model loyal, that is I don't care who makes it, if it works for me, I will use it. We all have different ideas and preferences in what a detector should be, that is the reason no one detector has captured the entire market. There seems to be some keepers from each brand and some duds.
