Bounty Hunter pinpointer. Anyone have one? What do you think?

Hi, I was thinking about buying a bounty hunter pinpointer. Any one out there have one? What do you think of them? Thanks in advance.

I was kinda wondering the same thing, they are pretty cheap on amazon, I have one from harbor freight, only 16 bucks, works awesome, until it doesn't, on my second one now, first one only lasted a couple weeks, returned it and the second one is doing better, but it's real glitchy. I've talked to a few others that have had the same experience.

I'm curious too. If they work well I will try one. I want to buy a pinpointer to improve my recovery time.

Bought mine thru harbor freight - $16.00 works great no problems
and for $16 it takes all the abuse i can give it.

I had the Bounty Hunter/Fisher pinpointer and for the money they ask for it, it's junk!

I have the Harbor Freight unit others spoke of and it works well for the price ( better than the Bounty Hunter) but when near moisture ( wet grass, moisture in the air ect), the unit gets a lil erratic.

Not had that problem with mine yet.

I got a bounty hunter pp ....there pretty much bottom of the line...air test they will pick up a coin at about 1" but in real dirt use you gotta pretty much be touching the coin for it to sound off....I would suggest you get a Garrett pro pointer....if you can't afford it right now you can contact Chuck of Indian Nations Detectors who is a sponsor here and he offers a layaway program....a lot of money to spend on a pin pointer but the difference is like walking or driving a caddy :)

I have used the garret and the BH and a couple of other's i setteled on the cen tech cause there really isnt that much of a differnece except price and if your worried about moisture keep it in a zip lock baggie. as far as sensitivity goes there is an adjustment screw on the cen tech but really an inch or so is all u really want out of a pin pointer anyways , it's not suppose to take place of your big md.

Cen Tech Pin Pointer

For $ 16.00 what have u got to lose.

Your Choice

i got the bounty hunter pin pointer as a Christmas gift but haven't had a chance to use it yet because i live in pa where the weather has been pretty cold. but as soon as it warms up i will give it a try

not much of a difference? wow...don't really know what to say except...wow.........I guess there isn't much of a difference between a rollsroyce and a vw bug either come to think of it...they both will get you were you want to go.....oh must just be the price....:heh:

I've never used a Garrett, but all I hear about them is "they are the best available". That said, Karl is right about the Cen tech, it really is a great pinpointer, will pick up stuff a good little distance, and the sensitivity knob is a really nice feature. I've talked to a few different people that have used them, one person had no problems, but only uses it as a back-up. Another had his go on the fritz in a week. My first lasted two weeks, and my second I have babied and has worked for about 5 months now, but after about two months it started getting glitchy, and now I have to hit the button about a dozen times to get it to work. If it was put together a little better, I would pay more for one.

I have a few of the cen-tech units, and a BH pinpointer. The Cen-tech units do work about the same as the BH, But the BH is much more convenient due to the shape, and it does seem to get a tiny bit more reach than the Cen-tech. Either of them will speed up recovery time. Nothing more frustrating than having dirt spread out, and knowing your target is right in front of you, but you can't see it. Either of these pinpointers will find the target for you. The garrett propointer is definitely worth the price difference, because you can determine by the speed of the beep how close you are to your target. I used the BH for about a year, and never had any trouble with it. I always keep it for a backup unit still!

I have and still use the bounty hunter pinpointer and all I can say is it's better then no pinpointer at all.
Would I buy one all over again? No, I'd put some extra money with that price and get the garrett pro it seems to have the best rating of the handheld units.

I have a Cen-Tech from Harbor Frieght, found out on another forum you can modify it to pick up 2"-3" away ( there is a gain potentiometer inside the unit) and can use the outer sensitivity knob to adj. down to 1/2". Works great. The wires on the buzzer aren't soldered very well but after I resoldered them haven't had a problem..

Thanks guys! I think I'm going to spend the extra cash and get the pro. Now all I have to do is decide which Lesche digger I'm gonna get. I'm caught between 3. The Ground Shark, The Samson and the Relic hunter. Once I figure that out I will be set. Early Birthday presents to myself. :geek:

I bought a cen-tech pin pointer from Harbor Freight about 2 years ago and it is still working to this day. The push button switch finally went out a couple of months ago and I replaced it with a toggle switch that is held firmly in place by electrical tape. It may not be a high dollar item, but it has located every target I have found when detecting. When it finally dies, I will get another. Best 12 bucks I've ever spent. It has not had an easy "life" in my hands.
