Bought a DD coil already - opinions?

When I had an XT70, the 9" stock coil rewarded me well. I had always wanted the Minelab 7.5kHz DD coil but had to sell the XT70. Fast forward now; I received my 705(kudos to Wayne at Metal Detecting Stuff)
yesterday and first thing this morning bought a 7.5kHz DD coil for it from a member on another site. I am just curious how many of you have used this DD coil and what were your likes/dislikes. I will be taking this "new to me" 705 out for my maiden voyage with it. I am just so happy to be holding a Minelab again, just wish I could have more time with it before old man winter hits the Ohio valley in a couple months. Hopefully,
the weather will be cooperative till then:please:

Is it the 10.5" DD? I have been using mine almost exclusively to get used to it. Like it a lot so far.

I have been using the 10.5 DD 7.5 coil for almost 8 years now, it's the only coil I use. It's a lil nose heavy but you will get use to it. The pin pointing can be tough at first if you use the X method. I use the DD wiggle method, it works alot better. I do not know what kind of GB numbers you see in your area but the DD type coils works best in soil with GB numbers 30 and lower. Conc coils work better in soils with GB numbers 30 and above.

Good Luck and have fun.

You're going to really like that coil. IMO it should be the stock coil on Xterras, and in fact it is in the UK.
Good depth, good mineral handling capability, good separation, and honest TID is what you can expect.

Thanks guys; feels like coming home, owning another X-terra. My GB numbers fluxuate around the 30 mark. I did really good with the stock coil when I had the X-terra 70. That little voice in my head always told me to get a Minelab DD coil for it so when I saw a chance to get one(now that I have the 705) for a good deal, I jumped on it. Glad to hear good things about it from the X-terra experts on this forum. Thanks again:clapping:

Is the 10.5DD even thou my soil in most places in in the 50-60 range. Still dreaming of a 11" "Pro Coil' like the Big Bro's of the X-terra have:shrug:

I just bought a Xterra 705 and it came with only the 10.5 dd Mr coil, and it is deep.I am us to pinpointing with the at pro Dr coil so it is ez. For me.just hit the pinpoint button, get it centered and drag the coil back, when the noise stops the targets right in front of the coil.great coil.

Where r u at in the valley im from the valley too

Ok well im from the other side of the state near St.Clairsville Belmont county lol HH

When I'm not using the 6" Coiltek coil that's my goto coil. Very similar to the HF version but a little less forgiving and a little deeper. What I mean by less forgiving is that the HF version of that coil seems to react a little faster in my soil. With the MF version I have to slow down a little and give it more time to work but it seems like it does just a little better with the older, deeper coins than the HF version. Both coils are great.

Listen to Mark! He has had some awesome, jealousy invoking (lol) finds with his X-Terra 505 and the 10.5 MF DD. He is the main reason I got one. It stays on my detector the majority of my hunting. It is amazing how well it separates for a large coil. It will also find tiny items that I could not find with the 9" stocker.

I just traded off my 9" LF coil for the 10.5 mid freq DD coil I hope I get to love it like all the above people do. I know my Digger coil get a lot of use. Love the 705
Don

I just traded my 9" 3kz coil for a 10.5 7.5 kHz coil I hope I can have feeling of doing the right thing and can give a testimony like all the above readings I have just read about the 10.5" coil

It's a good coil to have Don. Between it's accuracy, depth, and separation ability it's one that every Xterra owner should have in the arsenal.

Been using the DD since I bought it.Stock coil is collecting dust:biggrin: The 705 with a 10.5 DD MF is an awesome combo!!!

My 85 year old mother was using her X-Terra 70 and broke the ears off of her 9" 7.5 KHz (stock coil) while adjusting the coil / shaft angle. I had given her the 10.5" 18.75 DD a few year earlier so I switched it out for her and she's been using it since on the beaches down in Texas. Would the 10.5" 7.5 KHz coil be a better coil for her to be using than the 18.75 KHz?

The larger coil is a bit harder for her to swing now that she is 87 so I have an Anderson carbon shaft under the tree for her hoping it might help but now I am wondering if I should add the 10.5" DD 7.5KHz to the mix as well. Is one frequency better than the other for typical Tx beach finds (clad and jewelry)?

Thanks in advance
