Whats your best set up on that gsII ? I just picked one up and modded it
CJ.... I'm strickly a coinshooter and don't like zinc pennies. I set my GSII with disc on 6 and the notch is set about 6.5-7. Basically set disc where zincs crackle so I can determine they are zincs and dig or leave em. Sometimes I lower the notch and disc a little if I want to clean all the zincs out if I think goodies are underneath. Everytime I stray from disc on 6 and notch on 6.5-7 I start digging junk and almost always return to those settings? You'll get no nickels or gold jewelry using those......

The GSII is a coin shootin sob imo. Hope you like yours as much as I do mine.......HH

Thanks, I love the two tones esp the high, and how you can manipulate the notch to get the hi/lo warble, think i' ll like it!

I rarely get that low tone with the settings I mentioned. The high disc and notch settings I use probably have something to do with no low tones....BUT...I shoot for silver and copper pennies (pre-81) and seem to do ok with those settings. I also don't dig pulltabs with these settings. Someone else like Tabman maybe can help you better with the notch settings. Try my settings for starters and set your disc right where the zinc gets crackly or choppy but still loud and clear and see how that works for you....?????

I've often wondered how well those screens hold up in the desert heat or freezing temperatures.

For whatever it's worth....... My first machine was an ACE 250. I used to take that out at -7 to -10 Celsius in the winter to check sliding hills. I wasn't all that worried if I killed it because I had my Tejon then. The batteries would temporarily die after about one half hour from the cold. The screen was never damaged.

So the consensus is pretty much a 3KHz dedicated silver machine, no screen, maybe with tones ? Any interest in manual ground ballance ?

Is 3KHz really the best frequency for deep silver coins?

Of course we would have to have ground balance, because depth is a must on a silver slayer. The sweetness of a umax with the depth of the hot series. 3Khz hates iron, loves silver. Just ask the Xterra guys. Keep it simple with single tone to keep the cost down.

Dear Tesoro, I will buy the first one!

I honestly don't remember. The Tesoro engineers would know for sure. It has been a few years since I got into those technical aspects. But I do remember my Tejon as seemingly on the opposite end of the scale for silver coins. Although it still found its share.
