best in mineralized soil for coins

Looking for a lightweight detector for a man in his eighties (my dad) that will be easy to swing for a few hours at a time. Tesoro came to mind. However, I want him to have something that will serve him well. Probably will take him to old homesites and parks mostly looking for coins. Our soil is anywhere from 3-5 bars. Any tesoro fit the bill? Or something else light and well balanced? Also, which coil?

Thanks,
Barry

outlaw would be the lightest newest Tesoro with a ground balance not as sparky as the Vaquero or try out the new Mojave its cheap & from all reports runs in hotter than normal ground well with just the flick of a switch and the new 7" coil as well might be worth a look easy switch on and go detector mine will be here tomorrow I can try a red brick test...

Thanks AJ. I had a bandito micro max years ago. I hear the outlaw is similar. Found a lot of relics with the bandito and didn't use it much for coins so wasn't sure if the outlaw was a good choice. Also, don't really remember why I got rid of the bandito. I believe I saw Keith do a video on the tejon with the brick test. Seems the concentric coil couldnt see the target while the double d could. However to me it seemed to be a bit of a broken signal. More of a maybe.

I sold the V nice detector but for ease of use the outlaw wins for me hands down ( and yep does well on coins), yeah red brick is tough test and you are right a DD coil will do better but the Concentric will do better in iron always a trade off , but the older 5 pin boards seem to do better in iron and well with the new 7" Concentric here tomorrow its also going to look nice on my outlaw, but I wouldn't discount the Mojave not many out there yet to get reports in.

but if its a new and improved Compadre circuit then I have high hopes just hope they are not to high.

good luck in which ever way you go..

AJ

The new Mojave would be the right machine for your dad. It will handle your bad ground without having to constantly re GB. It is a simple turn on and go detector very lite weight and just plain flat finds treasure. Like it's little brother the Compadre it will find lots of coins and jewelry. My other Tesoro's haven't been touched since getting this thing and I have really bad ground also 3 to 4 bar. Turn it on, flip the switch to high and beep and dig, hours of fun and no messing with it. In the last month I have found 5 silver dimes, 1 indian head and 10 or so wheats. A lot of clad and junk jewery. Oh and 1 silver antique ring at an old homestead.

Thanks Welgund...I know I have read some positive posts regarding the Mojave. Impressive list of finds for a month. Silver has eluded me lately. Just curious which Tesoros have taken a back seat?

Vote for Mojave or outlaw.
Outlaw, like the bandido, seems like a good coin shooter. It has the ability to disc out copper and dimes but still hit quarters and silver.
I haven't run my Mojave in bad ground yet so I can't attest to its abilities there.
I will say that when I spoke with Rusty at Tesoro he did say the Mojave was the first "turn on and go" no GB detector he's ever been able to run in his AZ soil. The plus of it is, unlike most turn on and goes it does have the ground switch which is what allowed him to run there. I guess he has some pretty bad soil.
Good luck and happy hunting!!

I have some really bad ground as well and the 5-pin Tesoro (Bandido II, Outlaw) ran so much smoother than any 4-pin Tesoro I tried. Manual GB gives you more flexibility but the forums are full of good reviews on the 2 position GB Mojave.
Best of luck to you and your Dad.

My ground is poor also, this detector eats bad ground!
This video is with the 5"coil, way deeper than most.

The Tesoros that I have that I haven't used are Vaquero, Tejon, Bandido2 micromax and compadres. Mojave is just so easy and fun to use and surprisingly deep.

Have or haven't used?
No matter how fun that Mojave is, if you haven't used any of those you should!!

I have had all of them since they were first released by Tesoro and have used them plenty over the years. Time for Mojave luvin:)

Lol. Yeah it's a pretty machine
First one I'm taking out. Weather today was OK, besides the 60mph gusts of wind lol
Mother nature here in Michigan needs to make up her mind
