best coin shooter cibola.vaq or tejon

Just sold my detector and want to get back to the tesoro family.
Believe it or not I had the tejon for a very short time and then the silver umax and cibola.
They are gone but I never gave the tejon a chance.
On coins in mild soil or fresh water beaches which would you pick.
If I remember right the Cibola air tested deep but didn't do as well as the tejon but I never tried the Vaquero.
I would greatly appreciate any help as far as the best coin shooter.
David

I would consider one with a notch option. I hate thumbing and it will eventually ruin the pot from side loading.

I am leaning towards either the Vaq or the tejon.
If I remember right the tejon had like two disc. switches ?
There was a trick to using them.
I should look it up on the manual.

the golden is nice but if you stand one tone try the vaq youl have the option if you get in bad ground M/G bal plus alot deeper machine just my 2 cents worth

I like the Tejon for coin shooting. Set the first discriminator mid-foil, second discriminator to crackle on the new style pop tabs. Solid smooth tones that go away cleanly on the second discriminator are nickles with a little trash mixed in and clean smooth sounds above the second discriminator are other US coins and screw caps. Trashy areas (where a lot of coins are) get a 5.75 inch coil to go with it. Tejon is a real nickle popper!

For gold jewelry hunting, find an old beaver tail type of pull tab. Wrap the tail around the ring. Set the first discriminator between iron and foil. Second discriminator to just start clicking a little on the pull tab with the tail wrapped on the ring. Dig everything between the two discriminators. You will dig a lot of foil trash, but that turns up the gold too!

My experience is that the Tejon is deeper than the other Tesoros. I also like to use the clean sweep on the Tejon for sports fields, tot lots and beach work ... just not the wet salt water sand.
Cheers,
tvr

thanks for that reply.
I know someone said they found like 300 coins in one day with a tejon with the 5" coil.
I didn't say I believe it but I would like to. one of my first machines was the Tejon with the extra 5" coil-I think it was from a Dan in Canada and it took a long time to get it and he had the tejon down pat but I had some difficulty with it and didn't give it a chance.
I posted that I wanted one and had a few offers----(4). anyway I got a nice deal on something else and I will probably sell it and get a tejon just to satisfy my curiosity.

Hi, I'm the guy who pulled 327 coins in one day. Another guy told me he and his wife teamed up for 677 in one day.

You can call it BS but I assure you the tejon is capable of even more in experienced hands.

And I am the guy (and wife team) that found the 677 coins in one day.---You can believe it or not, it makes absolutely no difference to me.---But I can tell you that it DID happen and that coin count was from the two of us hunting (not just one person).----I have never seen anything like it before or since in all my years of metal detecting (that hunt was in April, 200:geek:.----We weren't useing Tesoros at the time, but we could have been--in fact, we could have been useing any number of good detectors that day & accomplished the same results--it was that good & a once in a lifetime experience (for me at least).---I wasn't "blowing off" about it--the question came up--as to what was the most coins you found in a single day.---I was simply responding to the question, you can believe what you want.-----Del

I believe you, just for the fact that the other day ( on the beach in the dry sand ) I found 32 coins in about 2 minutes. There were several coin spills right next to each other, with 7-10 coins in each one. Dimes, pennies, even one with 4 quarters.

If you do the math, thats about 15 coins per minute...so I bet if I hunted 6-8 hours on that beach, getting the same results every 5-10 minutes, it adds up.

Now I know dry sand hunting is a lot easier than dirt hunting for the simple fact that it's scoop and shake.

If you found all those coins in the dirt thats some feat and LOTS of digging between the two of you. Great job.

Yep, that was turf hunting (dirt hunting).----It was in an old "high traffic" park/swimming pool area that had either never been hunted before or if it had been hunted before, it was "many moons" ago.---I kinda initially even hesitated telling about it because it sounds so "unbelievable". :) ---The targets (coins) were so thick that you couldn't swing your detector without getting 3 or 4 "hits".---Much of the area was a literal "blanket" of coins (in certain areas).---They came in mostly single coins but several holes had 2 or 3 coins in the hole.---A LOT of quarters---we didn't dig the zinc pennies but did the copper pennies as we didn't want to miss the clad dimes.----EVERYTHING was clad coins with the exception of one---I dug a Seated Liberty dime at around 6 inches.---Everything else was relatively shallow (around 4 inches or less)--but the area was just COVERED with newer coins.----My wife got so tired she ended up going to the car to rest.---I kept going but I was so "pooped" I could hardly swing my detector before I gave it up.----Although we got 677 coins that day, after the fact, we thought we could have recovered 1,000 coins if we would have had the strength & stamina as we went back the next day & recovered many more--although admittedly nothing like that first day.----As I said, it was a once in a lifetime experience for me (us), I'm sure we will never see those numbers again in a single hunt.---------Del

I like the V for coins and beaches. Lower frequency and you do not have to run it hot if you do not want as it'll be more stable on the beach. just my opinion, I have the Tejon and had the Vaquero. :tesoro:

As for digging coins... I prefer the Golden with the tones that Ken in NC spoke about... I own one and several others ... all of the Tesoros shine on coin shooting I believe but the tones on the Golden help dramatically when hunting specifically for coins. the Tejon is great on nickels for me, the alternate descrimination helps alot to determine whether or not to dig. The Silver Sabre is hot on coins as well. but a few years back when i first got into Tesoros I bought the Compadre to see how it compared to the Whites I had spent so much money on...... I was really impressed when the Compadre pulled over 20 dimes out of the park I'd been hunting for several months with the expensive whites TID detector. All brands have a special niche in detecting that they excell in I believe and all have their special place for a specific hunting situation. But that's why they make so many different grades in different price ranges I believe.

For coin shooting, I would go with the Golden uMax. The tones help quite a bit.

I love my Tejon but the tones, as mentioned above, DO help. I can zip through a school yard with my AT Pro and simply listen for faint high tones. Works like a charm. I'd give up my second descrim. on the Tejon for multi tones. What an incredible machine that would be...................

I've had the Vaquero and Tejon, and I would cast my vote for the Vaquero as the better coin machine. The Tejon chases more deep non-coin targets, such as lead pellets, bullets etc. I found it to be a great relic machine, but not my first choice for a coin machine. However, I found the Deleon to be better than both as a coin machine. It has the depth of the Vaquero (in my soil), the legendary sweet audio of the uMax series, crazy long battery life, better for finding silver, and a basic display as a bonus. I dug 4200 coins in 2014, mostly with the Deleon.

I agree with Upnorth and Dan...With absolute awe from reading Dels' Massive clad day post on the first page!

If a fellow wants to sweep up a lot of shallow clad coins in a short time, take a listen from one who has dedicated some considerable time on mastering this genre....you gotta have tones!, a light fast recovery rig...the more tones the better...speed sweeping shallow clad is a wonderful skill within itself..:clapping:.

Not all can do it, or have the right gear, or even want to, but for those that do...you NEED a rig thats light, fast and multitone...A serious massive clad grabber wants to hear those Q's and Loonies and Toonies above all others... Massive and repeatable clad grabbing is not an easy endeavor, yet everybody thinks Totlotting/shallow modern drop hunting is 'baby' work and beneath their decorum?

It requires certain skillsets, focus and speed, not to mention being in tip-top shape and ready for a workout! It should be looked upon with the same respect as a fellow hunting beach gold, relics or old silver...For some reason within our detecting community it is not...But its super fun and profitable! And I defy anybody who thinks not, to try a massive clad hunt with a monotone, slow recovery rig....To a Master clad grabber, 100 coins in a few hours is nothing, day after day..

A Massive Clad grabbers focus is all about the daily/hourly ROI..the 'G's' if you will...Somebody moving slow and deep with a high buck rig finds 200 silver dimes in one year? Excellent! That IS an admirable feat that we can all give props to and commend, good job on your chosen skillset!...but Guess what? A Massive clad grabber knocks down 10k+ coins for $800 plus year after year and dont even get a shout out?

In the ROI world of a Massive clad grabber, those silver dimes represent @$200, maybe $220 tops?...If we were all bums living under a bridge, living off our daily finds, the Clad grabber is king!..He found the most amount of money in the shortest amount of time, bought multiple bottles of ripple for all of the rest, yet that damn silver dime guy is looked upon as the guru!....We do look at things differently in our sport and our gear should reflect that and be up to the task at hand..Its far easier for a Massive Clad grabber to convert to old silver hunting than the other way around..lets face it, we have a lot more signals under our belt than anybody else out there in Detecting World....

Any of them...I have had all three. If money or bad ground is not and issue, then start off with the vaquero, one 9 v battery and your ready. The tejon has a few more tweaks and more batteries, and the cibola down right is a pleasure. And get great depth.

Mud....That's the beauty of the sport, sooo many different styles, tectors, places to hunt and whatever makes a guy happy? Personally (Always been a coinshooter from the beginning)...over 23yrs tecting and digging bazillions of coins it was always the older stuff that got me pumped although my style of hunting was "the more you dig..the more you find" and coin count was also important at that time. I'm older now, health issues, only got so many bend-over-and-digs left in me in a days time so I find enjoyment in chasing the "oldies". Done the modern coin thing and always dug anything I thought was a coin for 22yrs. It's a hard habit to break...passing up a coin and I still dig way too much shollow stuff which takes up valuable time trying to sniff out the deepies? My goal for 2015 is to NOT dig anything under 6" deep ( trust me...I won't be completely able to do that) and concentrate on the deepies.

So we actually compliment each other with different styles? I hunt behind you...you clean off the top stuff and open up some masked deepies for me. You hunt behind me....I leave the top stuff for you!!!!!

I'd rather have a handful of these... http://www.findmall.com/read.php?63,2125436 than a 5 gallon bucket of modern coin.....

I like digging history in the form of Old American coin.....

There came a time when quantity of coin became less important TO ME than quality of coin...???

Either way.....EVERYBODY ENJOY whatever form of hunting floats YOUR boat....!!!!!!
