Best and lightest metal detector

Generally the shafts are adjustable and I run mine kind of on the short side. Must be careful about steel toe boots.

I know Steve, I was there when you won it. I was the one that asked you if I could look at the 6 inch coil. :) Congrats on the win by the way!!

I have a Delta and Omega on the way. I'll let you know how they are as detectors. They have 1/8" jacks (and volume control) so you can even wear light headphones without an adapter.

I would be interested in hearing what you think about those two. I have 2 xterra 70's and I am looking to get rid of one of them. I can't use them both at the same time and already have 2 other detectors. I was thinking of either selling mine or trading for either the Delta or Omega.

Please post your thoughts on these two machines or pm me when you know more.

Thanks a lot!!! :)

LOL! I bet you thought this would be a easy question didn't you? All good suggestions and I'm glad I'm not in your position cause brother you have some researching to do now.
Hope you make the right choice!

I knew it would not be an easy decision. There are so many detectors out there and a lot of them are superb but they weigh too much for someone with bad shoulders. I love the xterra! It is light and performs well. As I said up above, I have 2 of them and want to get rid of one. Thinking of a trade but might have to sell it outright.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts on this!!!

I have several machines and they will all find coins and relics. I had an F75 and I still have a T2. I also have an E-TRAC, a Tesoro Tejon and Cortes.

The T2/F75 machines are a good bit lighter than the E-TRAC but I have back problems and I can hunt much longer with the E-TRAC than with the T2, why?... I don't know. I can hunt pretty much all day with a Tesoro too and the Tesoro detectors will work around iron and ignore a lot of it.

If you are looking for your first machine I would highly recommend a Tesoro. I favor the Tejon but I think they are all good, you just have to practice with them.

If I had to choose only one i'd probably choose the E-TRAC but one thing bothers me. Several silver dollars stacked will give a bad trash signal on most detectors, the Tesoros will signal them as silver, I don't know why the Minelabs and the T2/F75 signal them as trash.

There is no such thing as the "best" detector - only the one that is best for you. What might be claimed to be great for someone else could prove to be frustratingly lousy for you. Only you can decide what is "best." There are several light detectors on the market. Tesoros are light, around two pounds or so The Garrett Ace series are about 2.7 pounds and very good detectors. Don't spend a lot of time dwelling on what is the best detector for someone else. Find the one that is the best for you personally, physically, and best for you and your hunting conditions.

In reality the Best Detector is the one in your hand..

Each individual has to determine

#1. What is affordable
#2. What do I want in a metal detector
"Bells & Whistles"
#3. What are you looking for -Coins-Relics-Gold
#4. Do you want a machine that is capable of all aspects of detecting..(That's all of them really)....but most do not do all aspects 100%
Beep and dig- Coin Id- Depth reading- Auto ground balance- Tracking ground balance ??? See what I mean ?? It's taste
#5. All detectors detect metal objects some specialize in certain areas ie: Gold- Gold Machine

And last but certainly not least..Everyone thinks their choice of brands, and the detector they choose ,and use," is the best".. And it is..
" You too will have to ultimately make that final choice."

In conclusion any name brand detector can and will work. and work well...Most are light weight........There is no do it all, do it everywhere, metal detector.
One of the biggest difference is the dealer you choose to make the purchase from..His knowledge is PRICELESS..........
