I have a lot of money invested in this Sov GT
Thanks All Jim :detecting:

Jim it might look worst than what it is,better case scenario you may be able to find an old clean XS control box until you can get the GT repaired.Hopefully some one has a spare box at a decent price. We'll get an APB out for parts. This could have happened to anyone.Good Luck. Ron

Thanks Ron and dont worry the meter is fine lol ill be taking care of that and Joe in a couple of days . Jim

Jim,the Advantage box is the same also if you just need plastic and your face panel is fine. HH Ron

Ron the circuit board cracked plus where the coil wire screws in that ripped out of the box with all the inside wires its beyond fixing . Thanks for the tip Jim

Jim, Are you saying that a box itself won't help ?

Yes Frank just a box is not going to help the circuit board cracked 3 inches across the entire thing . It took a good smack against the tree then fell 5 feet hit the curb . Iam taking 2 aspirin's and going to bed lol . Jim

Jim,there are Sovereign circuit boards in part boxes out there example I have a few for an XS.Mel might be a good source for a repair and a board.Good Luck Ron

HI JIM,

WOW, THAT'S BAD. IF MY GT GOT HURT LIKE THAT, I WOULD FREAK OUT TOO. YOUR CIRCUIT BOARD MIGHT BE SOLDERED WITH SMALL JUMPER WIRES WITH A SMALL SOLDERING IRON, AND JB WELD IT BACK TOGETHER. I WISH YOU LOTS OF LUCK WITH IT AND HOPE YOU CAN FIX IT CYA-MARK

So sorry to hear about your situation. I'll keep my eyes and ears open for a used box for you. Joe.

You want to borrow my xs2, until you find a replacement? I never use it,...let me know,,,,

infact it is setup with a remote Pp..may need to do something with that...pm me

Wow, you must have really had that thing rocketing into the tree to do that kind of damage. Sorry to hear that.

Call Minelab and tell them it's condition. They might tell you it's not even worth sending back to them and you just need to buy another box from them.

If they don't want the old box back then PLEASE don't throw it out. Somebody with good soldering skills should be able to patch that circuit board back together. I've fixed boards like this by using very tiny single strand copper wire to jumper over the bad spots on the circuit board traces. If nobody wants to give it a shot then down the road here I'll be willing to give it a shot like say this summer to try to salvage for you. The coil connector on the back is also an easy fix with some liquid plastic or epoxy.

I've been asked to wire in remote PPs for people but I don't usually like working on other people's stuff due to Murphys law with my luck unless it's friends who I can tell to go pound salt ( ). Seriously though, since it's already a goner no Murphys law thing to worry about. If nobody gets to it and you feel like letting me try to rebuild it I'll even throw you a remote PP switch into it if you want that you can plug in.

Regardless of all that, I wouldn't wait around to see if it can be salvaged and just either buy another box used or one new from Minelab. Put a Want To Buy GT Control Box ad in the Detector Accessories Classifieds forum. Might surprise you.

Even if that circuit board is beyond help things like the POTs on it and such can come in real handy down the road to somebody when fixing a Sovereign.

Again, sorry to hear about that.

there is something you need to know ahead of time. I guarantee nothing, I'm recovering from surgery and my wife was just diagnosed with breast cancer so I'm running to a lot of doctors and hospitals right now.
