Beach coils on v3i

dave the ferret

New member
Can anyone advise which is the best coil to use on the beach,as standard DD coil makes false noises when contacting wet sand where I detect in the UK thanks the ferret......

That would be a good bet. The concentric coils seem to work better on the beach and if you have a 950 around it will work just as well just not quite the coverage of the 12".

I've got a 10x12 now but now no beach. I used the 9.5 on Texas beaches and it worked great.

If you get it cheap enough, yes if it is not "V" rated, but I would suggest getting one that has the "V" on the mounting ear. Those have been optimized for better use with the 22.5 KHz frequency of the V.

DD Coils would seem to be a better choice on salt beaches, while concentric would make more sense on fresh. I like my SEF and it never comes off the V3i. I have not used my V3i on the beach so I cannot speak from experience.
